I had a Heritage Softail (99). Wife was never comfortable. Decided to upgrade to an 06 Electra Glide Classic. If you are going to go for an Electra Glide, at least go for the Classic (get tourpack, radio, chrome covers, etc.
I had the same problem but after weighting the options on both bikes I bought the FLHT Standard. Cost about the same as the Heritage, added a passenger's backrest, radio (aftermarket, and luggage rack. Spend $19k and have a great bike. The 09 touring bikes have an all new upgraded frame. I did opt for the cruise control, worth the money in my book.
For wind protection at higher speeds and the ability to upgrade like JayStrongHawk did is the best idea! You can't beat a Fairing'd tourer for comfort on long rides. and you'll be able to put the type of tunes you want, upgrade your gauges, all the cool stuff that'll make your touring bike your own from the ground up!
I traded my '07 Heritage for an '08 EGC to get the radio, Brembo brakes with ABS, 6 gallon tank, cruise control, etc. As for the ride, the EGC is more comfortable but I really liked the way I sat in the Heritage and the feel of a lighter bike. Would I trade back? No way, I'm happy now.
Hey Jay Stronghawk, love the blacked out parts on the motor, looks great. Had the guy I bought my standard off of not put the chrome pack on my motor already, I woulda went with that blacked out look. Have you done the rocker box covers yet? Oh yeah, no brainer , pick the Electra Gilde. This is the touring forum right? What do ya think we were gonna say. Plus, who really likes those chrome studs on the bags and seats, kinda gives your bike that Liberacci look if ya know what I'm sayin.
