Default 1000 miles...is service needed?

Besides changing fluids, are other services done at 1000 miles?

My local dealer told me that they retorque everything on the bike, check clutch and brake adjustments and so on... he also told me that it "sets" the warranty so I don't have any problems in the future... This is my 1st "new" HD so that's all I have to go on...

X2 here...After my 3rd Harley with the same dealer/mechanic, I never had any problems after my 1,000 mile services. Extremely pleased with my mechanic's honest comments whatever needs to be done after he looks at it, questions me about my future vacation trips and test-ride my bikes before giving me a clean bill as it's good to go.

Thank you...Arkport Cycles (New York),

Thorey

It's a good thing to do. But if you have a manual and a little time and effort, you can do it all yourself. It'll save you a ton of $$ in the long haul if you do your own maintenance. Also, you become much better acquainted your bike, and understand better when something needs attention. Good Luck

The first one (1k maint) is best done by the dealer. After that get your service manual out and take care of business as required. You'll appreciate your ride more, know it better and save big $$$.

When you get a chance read your owners manual.

As stated look in your OWNERS manual and it will show you what is supposed to be done at each service interval.

You should do every service that's in the manual and do the ones you can yourself. The 1K is basiclly changing the fluids and checking fasteners. No reason to pay the dealer around $350 for an oil change when you have no idea if they really do anything more.
