I want to add some pipes to my bike but the dealer said it would void my warranty on any pipe including their own except the stock ones. Has any one out there run into the same problem. I need some more grunt to cover up the loud engine that over powers the pipes. I had the dealer check into the sound of the engine to make sure it was ok and he said everything checks out, " welcome to the Harley twin". Clatters to much for me. I just got the Road King Classic about three weeks ago. I also plan on getting a shorter wind shield. Feel like I'm hitting a brick wall at 70!
Great forum and great advice, thanks
Sounds like you got a piece of work for a Dealer...
Look around for another Dealer that isn't so concerned about the "It Only Can Be HD Stuff", and find one that is comfortable with doing modifications, like what you are looking to do (Rineharts, V&H True Duals, or some other set-up), and how it is NOT going to ADVERSELY AFFECT the durability, Driveability, reliability and overall operation of the motorcycle systems...
We do it all the time... But we also ONLY RECOMMEND CERTAIN PRODUCTS, as they have proven track records, or we just like the quality of them... As well as we know how they should be tuned...
What kind of bikes are you used to riding? The Twin Cam 88 is the quiet for a Harley engine compared to earlier models. The V-Rod is quieter than standard Harley, as are most Japanese bikes and BMWs. But big V-twins with the long valve trains are always going to clatter some. We put up with it because they look cool and their exhausts sound so good. But I guess a clattering engine is a good an excuse as any to get louder pipes.
sold my 1200custom for the 06 RK classic. The sportster did have Se pipes on it so I didn't notice engine noise. I do hear a lot of noise coming from this bike, but I'm told it's normal. Will Syn oil clear up some of the noise, if so, what is a good weight and brand to go with
Some say Syn oil makes their bike louder. Yor bike with a wind shield will be louder to you than the one without the shield, because it cuts down on wind.
