Just find someone to trade with,will turn out better than what you are planning.Even some shops will trade for different sizes if what you have is in good shape.
I did it by eating and drinking a lot. A little time consuming but great results.
+1 on that. My exact answer. Just jam in the carbs, lots of pasta, steaks, ice-cream, and chocolate. It'll shrink down in no time... Don't even ask how I know!
Leather does not shrink uniformly. Natural oils in leather is what gives it it's versatility and conformity. If submersed in water (especially if it's washed with soap) the natural oils will be removed...This will give the leather the effect that it's smaller, I guess. Dried leather will ultimately crack and look very weathered. I would never recommend doing this to reduce it's size.
Alternatively, try trading it for another, or selling it and buying one that better suits your needs.

Mine shrunk on its own ? ... I should sell my old one.. It was a very expensive leather but i was like 130 then now im 187?... Food sure tastes good after you quit smoking almost 3 years and im not getting any lighter ..
30 years ago I was heading back home to Idaho from Sturgis.Went from 105 deg. in Rapid City to a blizzard,32deg. between Jackson Hole and Dubois Wy. Stopped in Jackson Hole cold and soaking wet threw all my clothes in a dryer@ a laundramat including my leather jacket,just to warm it up.Went from an x-large to a small in 20min.
