If you are worried about it, get a new one for the peace of mind. That way you won't be thinking about it on a trip.
Having said that my 05 has the original battery. Heat damages the battery and the cold lets you know it. Mine cranked & started at 8 degrees just fine. I'm not worried about my battery. But if it ever cranks slowly (and there is no other problem) it gets replaced.
I still have my stock battery- my 05 FLHTI was built in July 2004, and still running strong - got it tested for the same reasons during my Spring tune up with 24K miles last week..I've never used a battery tender, when it's cold out, I just ride it often in the Virginia winters..I figure if it goes on me while I'm out and about, I'll have a beer somewhere and a new excuse to buy a new one!
I use the Battery Tender all the time. The original battery in my 99 FLHR lasted 5 years. I replaced it when it started souding a little weak. It did not fail before replacement.
Recently replaced the battery on my 99...it was 7.5 years old. I guess if you don't mind throwing money away you can replace it early, but why? You'll know when it's getting weak....the battery will drag a little.
