I've been debating having a custom builder make some pipes for my 2008 FLHRC since I couldn't find a production model of the pipes I want...I won't even get to the prices I was quoted...
SOOOO I decided to fabricate my own....basically they are straight through 2 inch pipes (no baffle) with a hand made custom "flash gordon" tip...here are a couple of mockup pictures....please bear in mind that they are nowhere near ready for chrome...strictly a crude mockup picture where I was trying to decide how far back the pipes should sit behind the fender...all criticism is welcome...
I like the shape of the tail but they are for sure too long. Since you have leather bags you need some space but the closer you can get the tip to the bag safely that is the better.
Those are cool. Length becomes an issue on twisty roads as I am sure you are aware, and depending on the height of your bike. My fishtails don't even go all the way back to the fender and scrape occasionally when riding aggresively on twisty roads. Just food for thought.
Thanks dobber....I'm going for the low and long look...I'm planning a drop in the suspension and also throwing some apes on her...but I've also debated the length....thanks again!!
Hey anubisss...I've thought of the scraping issue...I'm sure your pipes might drag a bit...the dual on the softails lay a little lower then on a touring so I think even after I drop the sled that I should be fine...if not I just remove em and chop an inch or two off...sweet sled btw!!
Look pretty cool to me. They do look a little long in the first pic, but its hard to tell for sure without seeing the whole bike from a couple of angles.
I'm wondering though, with skills like that, why would you even talk to a custom builder in the first place? I wish I could make pipes. Seen what Yaffe's getting for that 2 into 1 baggger pipe???
Well to answer your question...Since my bike is an 08 and also EFI...having a production pipe makes tuning with a module much simpler...plus this is my first attempt and building pipes...seemed simple enough but I'm sure I'll have some obstacles...hey I thought I would give it a shot....thanks for the feedback!!
I'm with Dave, they look really great but post a photo of the whole bike profile to get a better idea of the lines. They look a bit long right now. Very nice mock up as well.
