leicafish.........I am not complaining about the money, at this point it's not about the moeny. I am willing to fork out 3 grand to a guy to fix it and take the thousand as a loss. The frustration comes in because this guy promised the world, I mean he said "show quality finish." I even asked him if he quoted it right because it was a lot of parts and he was like "you are gonna love it when I'm done." That's the problem I have, I was gonna go somwhere else if he couldn't handle it, but he really said he could make it perfect. He claims he has painted trucks that were in "truckin' magazine.
I would gladly take the grand as a loss, but at this point the money is gone and I may as well see if he can fix the parts? If he can't I'll take them somewhere else.

On somewhat the same subject, I am not really familiar with paint stuff, but is it possible to strip the paint myself back down to primer? I mean do I wet-sand it off or do I actually get some really abrasive stuff and do it?

I don't what kind of paint that he is using but just a 1 color paint job you will have 400-500 dollars in materials. $500 for labor on a whole bike in addition to wet sanding and buffing is not the way to make a living. Make sure that your next painter gets some of the materials off before they reshoot it, its not good to have 2 inches of paint on parts, it will start to come apart over time.

On your stripping it yourself, you would have to use 220 or coarser if you don't want to be there all day, but I would let the next painter do it himself, I wouldn't want to paint something that someone else had tried to strip. You can really cause the next guy some grief. Just my $.02 on that though.

he used HOK fire red metallic, he said it was $150 in paint and supplies? He said he bought 2 quarts of the red and it was like $80 for the paint.? I don't know, I will see how it turns out I guess. Thanks for the info. guys, maybe I will luck out and the guy can really fix it? Also, is orange peel from the clearcoat? Can that be buffed out or wet-sanded out?

I think the best thing to would be to settle on a price for mat'ls then find a more qualified painter.
There is the posibilty he could take you to small claims court.

EDIT...maybe you should let him rework it first. Then if not happy,do the first.
