We ride an 08 Ultra, two-up, pulling a Timeout Camper. Planning a trip in August from Manitoba, via Sturgis to Colorado. Durango and Four Corners, then up through Utah to Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and up to Alberta.
Any must sees? Anything to avoid? Any cautions? What kind of temperatures can we expect in Co & Ut? We still have lots of snow and -15 temperatures so all I can do is sit here and plan.
Thanx in advance.
I moved from Manitoba to B.C. in '06 and pretty much did that trip. First are you going through Sturgis during the Rally? ( aug 2-9 ). I would book a camp site early ( Creekside is nice, shady and quiet )( Buffalo Chip exact oppisite ).Also Judd Hoos is a fantastic band at the Loud Americian Roadhouse.
There are alot of really nice rides there as well eg. the canyon ride, and the needles, as well as mount Rushmore....
Be very careful of the wildlife at night there is a bunch around.
The rest of your trip will take you through different temps, so pack accordingly. With that being said you will prob have very hot weather most of the time.
1 last thing , myself and the wife prefer the side roads to the interstates. You will find cheaper motels and cool little pubs to wet your whistle.
do you have a GPS? It makes the side roads even better.
Have fun, take lots of pictures.
see you out there. I will be the one waving >)
Yea, the one MUST SEE is Glacier Nat'l Park on your way up to Alberta. Take the Going to the Sun Hiway, and after you cross over the top to the east side, head north and go up through Waterton Park to Alberta. It's a great ride. That'd be on your way to Alberta, but when you're coming back from Sturgis to go to Yellowstone, you need to do Beartooth Pass, and slip down into RedLodge. Great little biker town, and a gorgeous ride. Then go back over and take the road into Yellowstone from the east side of Beartooth. Good Luck
Agree with you on Beartooth Pass & Ride to the Sun, ridden them a couple of times. Been to Sturgis lots. We've never been to Co or Ut, and need more info on these states.
