Default Question on Drivers Backrest

Hey all! Any input will be appreciated-I have a '08 FLHTCUI Ultra. Bought the HD drivers backrest last summer, and rode with it all summer. I like it pretty well, but it has always seemed like it was standing too straight up-almost leaning forward and pushing me forward. I've been considering taking it loose (its the quick detatch backrest where you squeeze together to pull it out) and putting it in a press and (gently) bending it backwards just a tad right where it goes through the seat. I think this would result in a more comfortable riding position. I don't, however, wanna lose the lower back support entirely.
Anyone done this mod and if so what was your final result? Good? Bad?
Thanks!
So IL weather SUX today--rain and 40's--c'mon summer!

I'm on a Road Glide, so the results may vary with your bike, but I managed to make mine work without bending. I added a couple of washers under the mount where it attaches to the fender, & took the strap that bolts to the frame & made a new one. The new one is a little longer so it allows the mount to tilt backwards a little bit. It doesn't take much tilt at the base to make quite a difference at the backrest.

Have you moved the mount back all the way?

I had the adjustable one and had to do the same thing. I have sence gone to a solo and moved the tour pak up and use it as a back rest now. You just gotta do whacha gotta do.

Yep-the mount is back in the last hole as far as it will go. Moving the tourpak up is not an option unless I get rid of the wife.
I don't think its really too far forward, it just seems the angle is a bit off--tilted too far forward. Not by much but it could stand to be tilted back a tad.

I had one on my RK and I thought there was a set screw to adjust the angle of the backrest itself. It was under the cover around the 2 legs that you Squeeze to take it in and out.

I remember reading some posts last year where guys have done that and been happy.

I have the adjustable on on mine and it works great.

yep there is a set screw to adjust the angle. Its screwed as far out as it will go--still leans too far forward. I can't imagine screwing it in more and increasing the lean angle, it would get VERY uncomfrtable then!

Thanks guys-I'll try the washer thing before I do any bending. At least that's reversible if I don't like the results. Hadn't really thought of that. Handy little forum board here!

i put mine in the vise removed the spring so that I could get a pipe over the two peices at the same time and bent them until I was happy with the fit. Wrap some rags around the shafts so you don't mark them up. The washer thing did not move it enough for my comfort.
good luck
