Default J&M Elite Headset - Initial Impression

To go along with my new bike, I purchased a new 3/4 helmet (Shoei RJ Platinum-R). Since I knew that the H-D stock headset is pretty crappy, I did my research and between TwoWheelSound & Sierra Electronics (ended up buying @ Sierra), I purchased a J&M Elite Series Headset w/AeroMike III (JM-HS-ECD584-OF-HO & the lower cord).

Once I got the package, I started putting it into the helmet. One thing to note from the directions: For Shoei & HJC helmets, a slight modification to the ear cup is needed.

After getting everything installed, cords schmushed into the area between the liner and the shell, I went out and sat on the bike and gave it a test listen.

WHOLLY CRAP!!!!

What a huge difference there is, just sitting on the bike in the garage (still a bit too much moisture on the roads to go riding ), listening to a Blues MP3 CD (Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn et al) and all I can say is WOW!!!!! Hopefully the roads are sufficient tomorrow for a ride so I can give the new headset a true test.

If you are in the market for better audio, while wearing a helmet, I highly recommend the J&M Elite Series headset!!!

Sounds like a nice piece. What do they run? I've never used the one that came with the Ultra but may start and I can let my use it since she isn't on as much.

From the two sources that I researched (initial post), for both the headset & lower cord, the range was $243.50 - $255.50. Direct from J&M was $289 total.

This unit is more expensive than the H-D unit, but the audio quality is 500% better, based on my initial listen while sitting in the garage...and I can only imagine it will get better when I'm riding.

Glad to see this post. The audio quality in my HD headset is basically "un-listenable". It works fine for CB and Intercom, but for music, I push everything to my speakers.

Do you have a link to the dealer where you purchased yours?

Here is the Elite Series Page @ Sierra Electronics, you'll need to pick out the model you need, based on your helmet (see original post for what I bought). Remember to purchase a Lower Cord!

J&M rocks...
Sierra or Clay's cb shack have better prices, but if there is any problem, John at J&M will take good care of you. Their service, and quality are top notch.... you get what you pay for....

Sierra does Rock! TwoWheelSound was having a sale which is what caught my attention, but then Sierra reduced their prices, so I bought from them. John @ J&M is definitely a good guy! He answered my emails as best he could.

The one thing I'd really like to do at some point, is get the speakers measured for audio quality, just because I am a techno-geek and want to know. LOL

Latest weather forecast has me all giddy, cuz I might be able to get out and ride for a bit tomorrow (can't do an all day ride; have homework to do for class [working on my Master's])! Wahooo!

Glad to hear there's an alternative to the HD headset. It crackles like crazy and that makes it really unusable. But dang, the J&M is expensive. Nearly 6 bills for a pair? Yikes.

KopperTop...Go to the outfit where I bought mine! It will save you 'some' $$. The J&M is definitely worth the $ (trust me, I was on the fence for months while I waited for my new bike and I am very glad I got the Elite!!).
