I would suggest you email John at J&M (john@jmcorp.com) because it really sounds like there is something not right with your headset!

Hope you get your situation figured out so you can enjoy quality audio / comms!

I actually shipped them back just after I recieved them because I didn't think the microphone was sensitive enough. I had to shout much louder to get it to work than with the HD microphone. The said they evaluated the headset and that nothing was wrong.

SlimeDog ,,,,,,

the J&M -HO (high-output) microphone, that was released over a year ago, was made by J&M specifically for the Harley audio systems, so that you could use one J&M headset on the bike (used in conjunction with the J&M #HC-ZHD/PHD lower cord) and one Harley brand headset, at the same time and the mike signals into the Harley audio system would be the same ,,,,,,

in addition, the J&M -HO Aeromike will have less wind and ambient noise and this improvement will allow the mute sensitivity settings on the Harley system to be set higher, without the wind and ambient noise activating the intercom ,,,,,

as for the J&M helmet speakers, compared to the Harley brand, at the risk of bragging, it is a night and day difference between them, just little or no comparison ,,,,,,

having said that, the 1998-2005 Harley systems did not sound as good over helmet headsets, as the 2006-2009 HK systems do ,,,,, and in addition, the brand and model of helmet you install the speakers into can affect the sound and performance of the helmet headset ,,,,,,

After 124 miles of riding, I can say that the Elite Series really lives up to its reputation! I shifted between headset only and combined and it really worked well. Even had a chance to do some comms with the CB (went past a few Truck Stops)...Love it.

I don't want to hijack this thread but if anyone has positive experience with a headset for half helmets I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Any info will be apreciated

Hogginit,
From the site where I bought my Elite Series Lower Cord: JM-HC-ZHD

Correction on URL...I can't read... The URL has been corrected to reflect the proper JM-HC-ZHD cord. :S Sorry gang!

Wow, $85 for a lower? Gee whiz, that's outrageous. I wouldn't want the "earbud" option, very dangerous, in my opinion.

Is there a cheaper option for a lower? No earbud?

Hotshot,
My bad..I clicked the wrong URL. I've fixed the URL to reflect the proper "lower" cord.

Hey Cowboy and John,

Thanks. I will have to do some research, but what is the difference in the lowers from the Z series and the P series?

I have the Harley sets right now, they are junk for stereo audio, work fine for comm and intercom. I have had the "low dollar" J&M on an old Honda GW and on a Nomad. I would rate the low dollar J&M headset as "close" to the quality of the Harley sets..... maybe a little better.

If I make the leap to the J&M sets again, I will go with the best J&M makes, which I'm guessing is the Elite series.... pricey, but I would assume what the reports say, you pay for what you get.

Thanks for your help.
