I read all the comments about buffeting from the Street Glide fairing and decided to order an 8" CV recurve before I even rode my new SG. Well, everyone is right, the 4" OE windshield in combination with the deck of the slick batwing "deflector" send all the oncoming wind right into your face - Duh.
(Looks way cool though)
So I added the fairing wings from HD and mounted the taller windshield - sunovab!tch - no more wind in the face. So today I wound it up to 85 and rode for a while waiting for the "buffeting" to do it's damnedest. Nada; sorta disappointed that I slayed that dragon so easily. Guess I'm just insensitive.
Are you looking through the windshield or over it when you ride?
I rode from San Bernardino to Las Vegas last Friday night.
Wind speed 35-40mph with gusts from 60-70mph.
There was a little buffeting, but not that bad.
If you have a Roadglide how would wind affect you when the fairing is attached to the frame?
ride your heritage without the windshield i think that would be a start to get the feel of it i had a 06 SG rode with the stock one for a year and a half after awhile you'll get used to it or get a taller windshield
Has anyone heard of the cee baileys windshields? They are supossed to be a aeronautical grade windshield manufacturer. They offer a recurved one forthe SG and the UC which is supossed to cure the wind buffeting issue. I believe their web site is ceebaileys.com
I don't know what ite called but they make a little wind deflector that goes under the bottom tripple clamp (stock on my roadglide). My friend instslled this and a Klock werks windscreen on his S.G. and it made a great improvement.
I do know that with my full-face helmet the wind acts as a jack hammer. So much pounding and very loud 'popping sounds'...gives me a major headache. I have a 8" clearview windshield and the winglets on the fairings. The only spots that get rid of the hammer like effects is right up close to the windshield down low or up high with my face in the wind.
If I ride without a helmet the jackhammer effect is gone. I do feel pretty strong gusts coming from below and what seems to be gusts from the sides too.
If I can figure out where this turbulence is coming from then I can (and will) eliminate it.
