Default Upgrade to a Roadglide ?

Here is my dilema, I have my 2004 883c that ive had since new and its paid for, I have it set up the way I like it and I love the bike. I love riding all year round, and a touring bike is always been on my mind for the last year. I would have to borrow the money from the credit union to buy a touring bike, and its not a big stretch overall. Just lately with the economy ect. I just wunder playing it safe is the way to go.

Besides that I can see myself upgrading from the sportster to a roadglide. I like the bike overall and hoping the comfort for a passenger is better.

Any thoughts.

Only you can answer the question about playing it safe or buying a new bike. If you ride all year around and like to tour then it would seem like a 'good investment in terms of enjoyment', which is how I look at buying bikes.

Hi Impalla:

I have a 05 1200C and a 08 Road glide. Like you, I had touring bike lust for some time. In 07 I rented an ultra for a few days and declared it OK for touring. I bought my 08 in May of 08 and have 17,000 miles on it (I have 58,000 miles on the Sportster).

The RG is definitely more comfortable. The power will be about what you have now with the 883 up to about 75 mph. Above that the RG will have more power. The RG doesn't really have that much more room for people or luggage. The ride is smoother. Handling at low speed is MUCH more difficult with the RG, but once you get above 15mph, you won't notice the difference.

I will be keeping the RG. It has taken me a while to get used to it, but now it seems just right.

I am 6' 5", and the head buffeting on the RG is MUCH worse than the Sportster with a WS.

Once you go to the touring ride you'll never turn back.
I don't know if your replacing your sporty or not - but Harley does have an incentive going on for trading a sporty in on a bigger bike. Sounds like a good deal too?

I had a sportster in 05 then to a road king in 07. It does take a little to get use to but for me after about 50 miles and some twistys or so I got use to the RK. Then last Saturday I went from a RK to a Road Glide. And about the same amount of miles I was use to the RG. THinking back what a big difference it is. It is reallly up to you. If the $$$ is an issue then dont jump. Remember you can not take it with you.

count your dollars and then get the RG -- it has a lot of room for storing and packing chit -- add a chopped tour pak and you have enough room for two - three week adventure -- if you like the to ride far the RG is the bike to do it on--I believe the taxes on the bike are deductible -- hold out for a good deal

I have a RG and love it. Had a '98 RK and like that also. I always was a fan of the shark nose. I am 1 that does not think it handle drastically better than the batwing. I like the preception of extra room. I am also 6' 5" and like the layout better for me and my stature.

I am very happy with my Road Glide and of all the bikes I have owned it is my favorite.
A touring bike is great but there will be days that you will miss your Sporty.
I just wish I had enough dough to own more than one bike at a time.
