helmets
I have a Shoei MultiTec and, as bigskyhd said, mostly wear during inclement/cold weather situations. I have worn it 2x for long rides that were pure highway because my former 3/4 helmet (HJC) was okay for comfort, but not as good as my MultiTec.
That said, the quality of the Shoei, IMO, is better than many others.
When I was researching prior to buying, I went to Performance Cycles here in Denver, which has helmets from a lot of Mfr's and I tried on helmets from a variety, wearing the helmet for 30 minutes or so before shifting to the next one. I spent about 3 hours or so trying on helmets and figuring out which helmet really worked best for me.
I bought the Shoei MultiTec because it was, by far the most comfortable and I liked the fit, finish and quality.
As a result, when I was ready to pick up my new '09 Ultra on 3/21, I ordered a Shoei RJ Platinum-R 3/4 helmet for my primary helmet.

Best headset for the Shoei Multitech on the Harley, is J&M part# HS-NCD279-UN-HO, with the Ultra-slim speakers and -HO high-output mike ,,,,,,
installed properly, audio performance is very good and the price is right as well ,,,, use HC-PHD lower cord to connect this headset to the Harley audio systems ,,,,,

I have the Nolan 103 and used it all winter. Very good unit, once you get use to the sliding latch for the chin strap. Seemed to "pinch" at my adams apple area. I wish the padded strip under it extended to touch the one on the other side.
It was great during the winter, or when it rains to be able to be fully covered and then pop up the front piece when stopped.
I use the HD 3/4 with face shield the rest of the year along with the headset sold be HD. Very comfortable.
I also have a full face Shoei which I bought before owning the Nolan modular and while its a great helmet, I like the flexibility of the modular more.
Here is a pic the way I usually look when I stop with the Nolan, from one of 62 counties in Indiana I have visited during December and Jan for my H.O.G. chapter county challenge promotion. I've been know to go into McDonalds or Starbucks with the helmet front up to get a coffee added to my travel mug

Take a look at the HJC Symax II
I love mine. Excellent quality and reasonable price. Has an interior sunshade that comes down as necessary and does fit over street glasses. Thus far my favorite FF Helmet and yes, its modular.

I just got a Shark Evoline, which is a modular that lets you actually ride in the open position. Most other modulars do not recommend that you ride with the bottom in the open position, but the Evoline is built so that the chin bar goes all the way to the back of the helmet. I like it for the most part. My only complaint is that they forgot to realize that people have ears.

I went to a bike show with the specific objective of buying a helmet, and Shark wasn't even on the radar. I tried it and it ticked all the boxes for me. I was specifically interested in the integration with the Harley sound system as I ride an Ultra. Key points that sold me were:
As mentioned above, it is the only modular (at the time, don't think much has changed as that was only 5 months ago) that let you flip the front right over and ride open face - you can do it while riding as well which is great
It has good space for the speakers
Most importantly, it has a decent space between your mouth and the front of the speaker to fit the mic
Since having and using the helmet I am, generally, not disappointed....but, I do not trust the strap buckle. It has only happened to me and not my wife, who has the same helmet, but I have found on more occasions that desirable, that the strap is undone. It has one of the quick release type buckles (WHY - I never had a problem with doing a "turnback" in a helmet) so now I check regularely whilst riding. I just dont trust the buckle, but apart from that, great helmet
When I read the opening line of this thread I thought immediately of my helmet, which is the Shark. I don't have a problem with the ears, but that is down to a personal fit i guess.

j/kNot to hijack the thread, but did you do anything special to get the hd speakers installed? When I put mine in it was a tight fit.

BTW, no problem with the strap for me. You have to tuck the end into the holder.
I've considered a modular, but haven't found one that is as quiet as a FF yet. I wear an Arai Quantum 2. My wife wears a Shoei RF1000. Both helmets are fitted with headsets and we both use in ear speakers at times. I'm getting ready to replace my helmet and I'm leaning hard towards the RF1000.
