Default Hogtunes vs other speakers

well this topic has been discussed but I am confused so I am seeking input

just installed kenwwod am/fm/cd/mp3/xm/cd on my electra glide. I put in Infinity speakers
heres my question. I want the best speakers (I can afford) and I keep hearing hogtunes as a must. It makes me want to order them but here is my question

My volume goes up to 35 on my kenwood deck. The volume needs to be at 27 for me to hear it over my pipes.

1st) If I buy the hogtunes wont I still have to turn it up to that level to hear it over the pipes no matter what speakers I buy?

2nd) hogtunes is 45 watts RMS - 90 watts peak $100?
infinity 40 watts RMS- 105 watts peak $69

I just enjoy music, dont understand the who what where and why. I just want to hear some music. Can someone help me here

Thanks

My HOGTUNES made the sound louder, crisper, and plainer with less volume on the radio. They do everything they are advertised to do and have a 20 year warrantee. On top of that, the company is great to do business with.

Regards,

Bill

I second billnorse's comments above. Hogtunes speakers are great. All I did was replace the stock speakers on my SG with them and I'm done. No other modifications needed.

You should check with PEZ on which Hogtunes speakers will work best with your stereo. He has 2 Ohm and 4 Ohm versions. Your Kenwood probably takes a 4 Ohm speaker.

The wattage ratings are pretty much irrelevant when using the head unit's amp to drive the speakers. I doubt if the head unit is putting out more than 15 - 20 watts RMS, probably less. The sensitivity/efficiency ratings on the speakers have more to do with how loud they will be when being driven by a particular amp.

Since you've changed your stereo from stock to the Kenwood, the impedance of your speakers has to change also. All HD stock radios puts out 8 ohms to their stock HD speakers, which are 8 ohms. By going with the Kenwood, you now need to use 4 Ohms speakers.

So, you probably can get away with putting in 4-ohms, 50-watt, Coaxial speakers, which will work well with your Kenwood. All you can hear, while riding are the trebles and mid-ranges anyway. Bass is pretty much out of the question. However, from my understanding, the Hogtunes speakers are designed for motorcycles, and will bring out the sound that you'll most likely to hear while riding.

Another suggestion, also, is to wear earplugs! I wear mine all the time and can hear the music much better! Wihout raising the volume! The earplugs block out those bad noises, while allowing you to hear your music (good noises) better!

First off, the peak wattage is pretty much meaningless (unless you are going to try to listen to low bass rap type music). Well not really, but that's the minor concern, RMS wattage (and less) is going to be where most of your sound is. The things you want to look for are the sensitivity, frequency range, adn then wattage. All of those are going to affect the clarity coming out of your speakers, and tells you how loud your speakers will go with no/less distortion! Now with 5 1/4" speakers, the low frequency range isn't going to be that great, maybe 60-70hz (the hard hitting bass you hear thumping down the road gets down to about 18hz).

Now that's a very simplified description. I'm sure there are people more technical than myself that can explain it better (I'm going off what some of the stuff I learned a LONG time ago!)

If you just bought the set of Infinity speakers, you could return them and take that money and apply them to HogTunes. (I unfortunately didn't find out about HogTunes until it was too late! My Boston's aren't too bad though.) I'm just waiting for an excuse to be able to swap myself (too hard to justify to my wife right now......)

I installed hogtunes today. Easy installation and the sound is so much more crisp. Guess I'll have to do an amp upgrade now! I really reccommend Hogtunes!

You can pretty much disregard the 'peak' output levels as they don't represent the user's experience with the audio quality and power. The RMS values represent what you and I can hear and notice with the system. I've worked for a high-end audio company for 18 years and the 'coffee talk' is what our competitors claim for 'peak' output. Essentially this means their system/speakers can withstand this power level for a few seconds....enough to be recorded....pretty much marketing taking over engineering.
I've got the Harmon-Kardon system on my '07 street glide and despite poor comments on the '06 version they have nearly doubled the output power and I must say that although I can't say the system is 'high fidelity' by any stretch of the imagination I 'can' hear it fine at about 50% volume at cruising speeds and the sound is not that bad. Bass response is the most difficult aspect of audio to represent well with a limited loudspeaker size (size of diaphram moving the air) and considering all the wind and exhaust noise I'm surprised to hear some of the bass tones at all from my system at higher speeds.
That being said I have never listened to a 'hog tunes' system and in no way advocate or dismiss their product but am trying to help you read between the marketing crap when you read the headline specs.
