+1 on that too. I don't care if you are in the left lane, middle lane, slow lane, at a stop sign, or stop light, and I don't care if you only take up 2 or 3 feet of the 9 ft wide lane, you OWN the whole dam lane. It is a law of the land-----ask any cop if you don't believe me. And even if one is stopped, you must pass him in the passing lane, or stay behind and wait for him to go and make his moves... not crowd him in his lane while he is stopped. Hell, he may turn right into you---then what????Unless he is flagging you in, stay away from him and his lane, or face the consequences.

And as far as lane splitting in heavy stop and go traffic where legally permitted, I have never done that. Always figure with my luck someone would try and teach me a lesson by throwing open their car door in front of me and ending my little lane splitting ride.

Ride safe guys, and don't be a stealing another biker's lane. He owns from the fog stripe to the dashed yeliow line.

You are entitled the complete lane and should expect that you have it. What if you needed to swerve for an animal, pothole or the like? Why in the hell do you think they teach , and most people practice "staggered" formations when riding in a pack??? Nothing wrong with "waving" a rider past you, both of you know what's going on. Just yesterday as my buddy and I are getting off of an exit ramp and slowing for the red light, some azzbag on a rocket comes flying past me in MY lane on the right side of me and must not have seen my buddy (with his girl on the back) who was in front of me but on the right side of the lane (because we have the COMMONSENSE to ride staggered). Anyway he had to lock it up (backwheel hopping and all) to barely get stopped and keep from hitting them. We were damn near at the red light! WTF! Then he has the nerve to shake his head and mumble something as if my buddy did something wrong. He was a big dude and the rest of his "pack" was behind him, but knowing my buddy if his girl wasn't along, it could have gotten ugly!
Thanks but I don't need your "benefit of the doubt" if you read my post it said if you see them coming I do not see a problem sliding over and letting them pass, but it looks like I'm in the minority here. Sorry to hear about your bad experience lately glad everyone is ok. All of this don't get next to me, don't be in a different lane and ride next to me, don't look at me is just a little bit overwhelming. Don't get me wrong I don't go flying by people or come rolling up on them at lights but I will pull up to about the rear tire or so at a light. Many different situations I guess and decisions to be made. What do you do when you are riding with your buddy's? You don't ever pull up next to them check out their scoot and make sure everything looks "normal" for example on a long road trip or some run? If you do then aren't you putting yourself in "danger?" That pothole might be coming up.

I hate it when a biker tries to make up new rules on road. You own that 9 feet of lane you are riding in and I don't care if you only need 2 feet, you own the entire dam lane. That's the dam law---------
Not in California.

About a year ago I had 2 sport bikes come up on me when I was doing about 70 and split me in my lane. I can tell you I did not appreciate it. Everyone complains about cars, but there are some really stupid bikers too!

Had a guy on a harley soft tail pull up next to me at a light look at me then pulled a bit ahead of me cuz I am on a egc kinda stuck his nose up at me then when the light turned green I waited cuz he l lit up his rear tire and dang near lost control if I would have gone when the light turned green he would have clipped my front end then the fight would've been on. When someone flags me up to them at a light I will visit with them till the light turns green then I let them go first as they were at the light first common courtesy, ride like you are invisible and be nice.

"There is nothing wrong with passing in the same lane. You guys gettin all work up over nothing".

Sorry if I mis-understood this part of your answer

Do I pull up beside them at a stop sign or light?..yes. While riding, and especially blasting past them when they aren't expecting it?....Absolutely NOT. However I think the intent of the original post is getting off topic just a bit with the whole "don't pull up beside me at a light thing" which is not so much putting someone else in danger. The main point to be made is blasting past someone who isn't expecting it , or cutting them off and thinking it is "OK" or safe to do (re-read the first post that started this all) whether it is legal in your state or not. Sorry, but don't bikers get a bad enough rap as it is when all are judged by a few immature "cowboys" (emphasis on "boys")who think they own the road, and have to prove what an awesome "rider" they are? I don't necessarily care if they put themselves in danger & I'm sure there is someone who will benefit from their organ donations but when they put me in danger from their actions and poor judgement then yes...I'm going to take offense to it.

By the way....you got a nice ride there!

I have to agree with you on this. If I want to cruz at my speed and another bike is going faster than I am, I will either signal to move over to the right if there is room, or I will move over to the far left side of the lane to let them pass on my right. Here in Cali it is legal to share lanes and to split them. Something that I am happy for. Seems some people in here think on this and other threads it's perfectly fine to split lanes when there is a car on both sides, but you can't share a lane with another bike? It's my opinion but I see nothing wrong with passing another bike in the same lane as long as you make sure he knows you are there (for respectful reasons). If you are moving at a pace that allows other people to want to pass, you should move out of the passing lane and allow them to pass. I do understand that in some states it is illegal to share or split lanes. So this would not apply to you. However it is legal in Cali and I see nothing wrong with it.

I do not agree that you should speed by and scare someone because they do not know you are there. It is very dangerous to come that close to another biker when he does not know it. It can cause a serious accident to himself or both of you. You should pass at a reasonable speed and let the person see you.

When I was at a stop light once, I had a couple of bikers pull in front of me , I was in my Formula, so I power breaked it, tires squalling, smoke bellowing, they just looked at me like WTF. Good thing they got the hell out of the way when the light changed cause I was on the gas, almost got them but I dought it made a difference.

Okay ... I don't know which is funnier ... the term "Asshat" or all the Star Trek references.

Phasers to stun!

By the way ... shouldn't the phasers be shooting at the same target? Or were they made by Kawasaki?

It does all kinda boil down to common courtesy, which, as we have seen here, isn't all that common on the road. Too bad because it goes a long ways towards taking some unnecessary stress out of life.

When you add in all the drivers who are impaired (booze, drugs, cell phones, kids, metally challenged, pissed off at the boss or spouse, etc.)...it almost seem like a miracle that we go out and ride home in one piece. But mostly we do. So, take a deep breath. My free advice (and worth every penny), turn down the ego, relax a little, have some fun.
