I got to 9K miles on my first set on my 07 FLHTC and swapped them for EBC Sintered pads because i was headed to the hills...stoppes better and i now have 28K on them and only about half worn...Same for the back....Squeals a bit some times when they are warm but i overlooked that because of stopping power...Good luck..I would first look to see if they are worn??? Depends on the way you drive but no sense in wasting good pads if they are not worn...

I wear out more back tires and less brake pads than most people. There is no way to decide by how many miles are on the pads.

I rode my 05 heritage 22,000 miles and the pads were like new when I traded up to my sg. One of my riding buddies wore his pads down and scarred the front rotor in 10,000 miles.

Just look at the pads and see how much they are worn.

I put pads on at 19,000 cause they looked thin. Got the new pads and they were almost the same thickness.

Default What Bike?

Ben-z, first I would like to remind you to always reference what bike and year you have. Ya, I do know it is a Harley (may-be) so I had to take the time to search or give wrong or inaccurate information to aid your problem. I take it you are talking about a RKC09 found HERE on this previous post.

If that is the case, and do not mean your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th bike as in my and many others case; here is the information you should consider:

  • In 6K miles your pads are (should not be) not worn out, however, since you have sintered stock HD pads your calipers should come off and the pistons and other components should be cleaned. I recommend every 2.5K mi. You can learn how to do it HERE on my site Brembo 2008 ~ Current Brake Maintenance Guide PDF Download
  • You may also view why you would like to do it HERE ~ HERE ~ HERE ~
  • You may wish to toss those pads in favor of better pads such as organic type. If you wish to find out your options look at the top, near the middle and in the BLUE band, this great forum has a little button called SEARCH V and also a technical portion which holds great postings by our members as well as a Knowledge Base located at the top of the page in black.
  • I hope you enjoy your time here and the members here (HDF) make your motorcycling adventure much more enjoyable with knowledge, companionship, and concern to all those in our motorcycling community.

I've got 10K on my 08 streetglide and had to replace my rear tire. When I saw how thin the pads were, I bought a new set. I was really surprised at how thin the new pads were. The pads have wear groves in them. If you can see the wear grooves, you still have wear left in your pads. I decided to run my old pads and just keep an eye on them.

The pads are easy to change. Get the service manual; no need to take it to the dealer.

Buy or borrow a manual. They are very easy to change out.

Just a heads up for the tourers with Brembos using stock pads....the new pads have a pn# 41852-08A which claim to be an "anti noise pad" and includes the paste kit as well. If your dealer is like my shop, they still have the older -08 pads on hand and sell them off first. So make sure you ask for -08A's. I haven't looked to see the differences in the pads if there is even any because we don't have any on hand yet, but I do know that they upped the price $10 to cover the cost of the paste.
