Hello from the "peoples republic of Massachusetts", I was just told Mass is going to be starting to do inspections and you will NOT be able to change your exhaust or modify the motor in anyway that is not EPA compliant. Also anyone who adds an aftermarket speedo such as (dakota digital) or anything aftermarket or a speedo other than the one that came with the bike will be subject to mileage tampering because the new 09 Harley ecm's store all data including mileage, VIN#'s and ecm A/F readings and the new Mass inspection computers will store all data, so if anyone removes or modifys any emission related part that was factory installed will be subject to fines..etc!!! WTF???? someone please tell me it aint so ! I was just dreamin about my new engine build, I did hear some states are already doing this (NJ I think?) whats this world comin to?? do any Harley mechanics here know for sure about the new ECM's?
If it will raise tax revenue it is likely Devil Patrick will do it. As it is, the RMV no longer sends out drivers license or registration renewal notices as a way to increase revenue on the back of the working stiff who gets bagged for driving with an expired license/registration.
well I am glad to hear that, I expect something like that from California (not that Mass isn't that far behind in their thinking) but, what I was told today was what I had written, I hate to buy pipes and a PC-V and order cams for next winter only to find out I can't use them, I am hoping someone who knows forsure will see this post

I did hear our wonderful governer was thinking about using the mileage as a way to tax we lowly bikers per mile that we use the state roads, this year was the first year they asked me how many miles on the bike.....he probably needs a new set of those "spinner hubcaps" for his new Caddy he bought the first day he became "Da Govna"
I read recently from another HDforums member that Calif has a bill in the legislature that will most likley pass for smog and safety inspections here. The worst part, they want to retro the bill all the way back to bikes 2000 and newer. And even epa mufflers and engine kits wont pass, the bike has to be bone stock with oem everything. Hope that one isant true. I am not getting excited about that one untill I see it for myself.
