them yami's got ***** thats for sure. Now that you got the HD you don't have to get there early, you can be fashionably late and arrive in style.
+1 My last bike before the RKC was a Vulcan 2000 cc. My RKC has no where near the power of my old bike but I'd much rather be on it. I'll just arrive a bit later also.
I couldn't agree more with the early oil change. But stay with Dyno oil till 1000 miles. Last few new engines I've had, I changed oil early and often to flush out any impurities during the break in period. It's been bullet proof since. You do need to wait to 1000 before dumping in the synthetic oil in the crank. Of course, Syns in Trans and Primary fine. I've had great success with Red Line Heavy Duty Shockproof in the trans/gearbox. It's a great lubricant. I've had it in at 5-6 bikes and never once had a problem. Besides you can always win a bet or two by telling your rookie Metric friends, and occasionally a Harley owner that you run Peptol Bismol in your trans. Make the bet and then pull the dipstick to prove it... Enjoy, and ride safe.
I don't disagree with your post at all, but out of curiosity (or ignorance), don't the SE engines come with synthetic oil from the factory??
I didnt go to synthetic till 5k... Enjoy the harley and if you want to go fast buy a crotch rocket for when you do but remember thats a lot of good chrome money wasted to go fast ...
>>My Yami was a 103 <<
Your Harley is a 96..........Do you really not know why there is a "pep" difference???
Be honest with yourself, realize that while fun to ride and all that, the Yamahaha never did handle, sound, feel like your HD.
Now when someone asks about your Harley you don't have to say "it's a Yamaha" and watch them walk away.
wow.. Thanks for the quick reply's..... Hoping to here more..... Also does anybody have any experience with HD shops in the MN metro area???
Hey Walleye-
If you are looking for a HD dealer in the Metro, I'd suggest Crow River in Delano...that's where I get my service done. I have Fred do all my stuff...he does a great job!

And add me to this list as well.
Guy here at work just got a FJ Yamaha (basically a sportbike cruiser)...it supposedly does 0-60 in less than 3 seconds! I did the sportbike thing back in my 20s, and I admit the Yammies I rode were much quicker than my RKC. But nothing compares to riding a Harley...I love it and there is no need to be in a hurry, especially when you are on the coolest bikes on the planet!
If memory serves, if you're keeping your motor a 96", the HD SE211 Cam and a dyno tune will wake the motor up sufficiently.
If you want to go bigger, there are many options, both HD as well as 3rd party. I personally love my 103" Stage III. The torque curve fits very well for the riding here in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain States.
Here it goes... I hope I don't get banned for this.... I bought a 09 FLHX and traded in my 06 Yami Road Star Midnight Silverado... I like the handling of the HD, but I don't think it has the "pep" that the Yami did.... My Yami was a 103 with A/C, pipes, and a dyna.... The HD has A/C, pipes, and a tuner.... If I just put a set of cams in will that make a "big" difference or should I do a big bore kit??? Also HD recommends waiting until 1000 miles to change the oil... That seems like a long time for break in oil... I am pushing 200 miles and I am thinking about changing it..... Can I run a synthtic now??? Hopefully I didn't offend anybody.....
I agree...If it were my bike, first oil change at 500 miles and every 3000 miles after that. And I would re-think the usage of synthetic oil. You don't need it. My high compression 95" build runs quieter and cooler on dino oil.
In 05 I had approx 2500 miles on the oil. We went on a trip in May of that year. A lot of highway driving, 985 miles in two days. Day 2 my bike was rattling like it had marbles in it and running hot. The oil may stay cleaner longer but I truly question it lubrication qualities after x number of miles. I blame the oil and lack of lubricaion for the premature failure of the chain tensioners.
Walleye - i'll second Crow River - also Zylstra's done good work on my buddies stuff...as for Indy's - Cycle Works in Elk River is supposed to be good, but I can't give you first-hand knowledge of that.
