Honestly, I think you need to decide how much 'pep' you want. I don't know the numbers for the Yamaha, but if it felt 'peppier', it probably was. Ride a bit longer and then decide where you feel your bike is lacking. Do you just want more torque, more top end?? It'll be a lot easier to determine what upgrades to do when you know what you want. Just my .02

I do agree with you that your Yamaha felt snappier, it probably was! I rode Yamahas for years before coming over to the HD side. I bought my Ultra for the comfort and the feel. something my Yammys were lacking. I put a stage 1 AC, Rinehart slipons and a PCv on mine and am very happy with the results. Might still not be a quick as my yamahas but more than enough power for what I want to do. I want to spend many hours in the saddle, and I could not do that on my V-star.
I personally am sticking with the dino oils (so far). I have always changed my oils at 5000km so the extra mileage you get with the syns would be wasted to me. If I find I am having some heat or engine noise problems I might switch but so far am happy. Plus, in my opinion, I would not switch over to syn until my second oil change. I think that the syn oil would give too much lubrication for the break in period. I know the CVO bikes come with it but...... just my opinion.
