I usually put either anti-seize or Loctite on my threads, depending on the application. I guess if you really need to lube your threads and oil was all you had, it would do.
You asked if Syn3 is a bad motor oil. It is not. It will work fine.
So will just about any other oil you put in it. Lots of different opinions here, but the bottom line is that if you change your oil at regular intervals, you will most likely never have an oil related failure.
Much is written about how air cooled motorcyle engines are different that car engines, but they fail to note that cold starting conditions are the most dangerous to an engine.
Me? I use Mobil1 15-50 car oil, $26 for 5 quarts at Wal-Mart. I change it every 5K.
I think Amsoil is a good oil maybe even great. I would use it in a heart beat. Only problem is availability and price. Actually availability is not as big problem as it used to be.. I know where I can get it at a couple of retailers @ 12+ bucks a quart. Just to much bad press, mainly here on the boards on Syn 3, plus I won't even buy Citgo gas unless I'm in a bind. I don't care to support Hugo Chavez. I prefer to use Mobile 1 V Twin and save 3 or 4 bucks a quart. Thats roughly 20 to 30 bucks savings depending on wether or not you doing the primary. I do use it in the primary too and Mobile 1 gear oil in the tranny.
Oh yea, definately an oil thread. Just had to put in my 2 cents.

And yes, this is another oil thread!
+1
For me it's about the cost. I use Mobil 1 15-50 from Walmart as well. Anything from the dealer is over priced. It's all good stuff but they want too much for it.
Syn3 is so damn good that I put it in all three holes (of my HD) as well as pouring it over my cereal every morning. PUH-Leez, no more friggin' oil chit.
I have talked to several HD and independent mechanics about this topic, and all have given me the same answer, " It's about the "additives" in the Syn3 ", and has been tested by HD and proven to keep the engine running cooler. Who cares who made it or how much it costs.
