At 1,000 miles, I switched to HD Syn3 in all three holes in my 2007 Springer Classic. At once it started shifting hard, with a big clunk, and the motor got real noisy, especially the upper engine; sounded like a big sewing machine. I ran it for awhile longer and after I had enough, I switched back to the original lubes that the bike came with. Immediately the motor quieted back down, and the tranny shifts smooth and easy. I'm taking delivery of a new 2009 Electra Glide Classic this Saturday; synthetics will never be used in it. I live in Wisconsin, so I don't encounter the high heat issues that most of you have. Perhaps that is why I can get away with using real oil.
Oh good another oil thread! Its been way too long! I'm in!
Syn 3 starts life as a dino oil. The molecules are cracked changing the structure resembling that of synthetic. There was litigation over this by true synthetic manufactures changeling the ability to call it a synthetic. The real syn manufactures lost so they can legally call it a synthetic. Syn 3 has less of each of the beneficial additives - presumedly that is how they were able to be the low bid to HD.
It is produced by Citgo Petroleum of Venezuela. President Emilio Chavez is not a friend of the United States.
Why not use a good syn like Mobil V-Twin or Amsoil that is manufactured by those who are not socialists and do not think of the U.S. as devils.
