Default Mismatched ignition lock

I picked up my bike on monday March 30th. While going over the bike with me, the service guy realised that the key fits the bags and the forks, but not the ignition, it won't even fit into it.

He said that he would order one right away. He even left the service area at that point, I presume, to order the new switch. When he came back, he said it would be here on friday, which was a week ago today. I called this past monday, and they said that the truck was delayed, and that it would be in soon.

My question to you is this, should I call them again, or wait a while? I was pretty easy going at the time the prob was discovered, but really, I have paid a fair amount of money for this bike and now I am reluctant to ride it any where, where it would be left out of sight until this is corrected. The forks still lock , but I don't want anyone turning on the ignition, not to mention, just general principals.

How much longer should I wait too call the dealer, and do I need to step it up a notch if the part isn't in?

Your bike's ignition and starter should be disabled without the key FOB. So it can't be started even though your ignition is unlocked.

I watched a budy of mine who owns a Fatboy walk up to another fatboy and unlock the ignition with his key. Not sure if it was a lucky chance but it did start. For that reason I have the HD security system. But if theives really want it 30secs and it is in the back of a truck.

Sounds to me like you need to take the bike back to them. If they cannot fix it right away tell them it is not fit for purpose and you want use of another bike until it is. Be polite, but read them the riot act!

Frankly I would not have taken the bike away in the condition you describe. Nor should they have released it to you! If they were doing their job right they would have identified that problem before hand-over, so they really have let you down bad.

Yes need the security system but not the siren. You have no FOB? Then no security system.

I understand that, but opportunity makes a thief also. Not to mention, that some people think it's funny to turn on your bike while it's in the parking lot etc.

My point is, that after paying 18000 for a bike, I'd like everything to work the way it should. I am not a RUB, I am a truck driver and I saved and pinched pennies for the (not insignificant) down payment. I love the bike, the color, they way it handles, everything, and this is marring the experience ya know???

Well, I had a 2003 Heritage. Bought the Anniversary Gold Key Package which came with the (Gold Key). The dealer had ordered two of these packages. Gave me one and the other was waiting to be picked up.

The key would not work in my bike so I brought it back. As it turned out the right key for my bile was in the other Gold Key Package which hadn't been pick up yet. The key I had was for the other persons bike, so go figure. needed the right key for the right bike.

grbrown,

I was told that the part would be in on friday and it would only take " a few minutes" to switch out. The bike stays in the garage during the week, I am not home much due to my job. I didn't think it would be that big a deal, everyone had treated me so well, plus, I really really wanted to bring the bike home.

Thanks for your input, I think I am going to head over there shortly and see what's up, it's been almoost two weeks now.

I would have them do the 1000 mile service for free? What else did they not check out on the bike before they sold it to you?
