OK, I know it all depends on how you ride, but I'm curious how much mileage people have gotten out of the tires that came with their bikes. I have almost 11,000 miles and it looks like I still have a bit of tread left. I do mostly highway miles with 7,000 of those going from NY to California and back. Taking another x-country trip in July so I know it'll need replaced by then, but I hope I have enough for my trip in two weeks to go across the Chesapeake-Bay-Bridge-Tunnel.
Also curious about the brakes. It's going to the dealer next week for a warranty fix on the cruise control ( I guess one of the rainstorms I rode though got the CC wet and it doesn't like to be wet) so I'll have them look at it then.
Like you said, riding habits are the main factor. You have already gotten more miles out of your back tire than I ever have on any bike.
Brakes are the same. I am hell on tires, but have never wore a set brakes out on any bike I have ever owned. The most miles I ever put on any one bike I owned was 40,000.
Brakes will have to be measured just like the tire to know when they need replaced.
You are right it depends on your riding with the tires. 10-12k on a rear tire is the average I have seen using the stock Dunlops. I use a quarter to check the tread depth, if the top of Washingtons head shows (4/32) you are at a point where a wet or slick road could be a problem. Tires are relatively cheap compared to a rear end sliding out from under you.
I have 14,000 miles on my '08 and have 2/32 tread left on bouth front and rear so they are ready to be replaced. The break pads look to be less than half left so I'll do them at the same time as the tires.
My riding buddy got 15,000 miles rear and 23,000 miles front on his original Dunlops but only 7500 on the replacement rear. No change in riding style.
I'm getting 10k on the rear - metzeler me 880 and 21k on the front. Would like to get more on the rear but have limited choices on size (2007 Eg classic) Anyone getting much better than this and if so what brand/size?? Brakes are at the half way point with 22K on the bike
Thanks
I'm curious about the new dunlops on my 09 EG Classic. Harder compound in the center and softer on the sides. They say maybe 20% increase in mileage. We will see, I have close to 5K on them now.
