Hello Everyone,
I just finished putting on my 16" Apes on my 07 RKC. Now, I have another problem. I had to take off my exhaust to put the clutch cable on. Everything was great until I started the bike. I let it run for about 5 minutes, enough time for me to grab my helmet and take it for a test drive. When I came back out the pipes were glowing from the front and back heads. The exhaust is ALL stock. I have been reading on this site and realize that some glowing is expected, but I have never seen this color before. Even the heat shields are very hot. Did I put the exhaust back on wrong? I am at a loss on this one, and need some help with it. Thanks in advance.
I don't think you can put the exhaust on wrong enough to cause it to glow unless like jerseyjeff said the O2's aren't plugged back in. The O2 wires haven't laid on the pipes somewhere and burned thru? or pinched anywhere?
But when you get that issue solved it would be nice to see pics of your install.
Yep, from what I've heard they are set to run as lean as possible to avoid catalytic converters and to meet emissions standards. I remember now that my 07 RKC was stumbling and there was an ignition program update the stealer performed free from Harley. It was under warranty then.
I know an ignition update doesn't affect the actual amount of fuel but if the timing is too far advanced it can cause preignition/detonation or be on the verge of it thus causing it to run hotter.
Don't forget pics of the ape install !!
