Been riding a 2004 Goldwing with Bushtec trailer(Pearl Orange is the fastest) and have decided to make a change to HD. Due to kids, the wife and I are no longer taking long trips. I am thinking about Road King or Ultra Glide Standard. Any suggestions? What is the deal about the 06 motor mounts? I have owned a 99 Roadstar(cool bike), 99 Goldwing 1500 and 2004 Goldwing. I like the way the Road King looks, but wondering how much I will miss Goldwing extra's.
I've had an RK for over two years and I love it but I have never had a fairing model so I couldn't help you there.
The RK is a very easy ride.I have ridden a Road Glide and an EG and I 'm happy without all the gauges and being able to take the windshield off.
Sounds like you need to ride them and see what you think.Good luck.
Buy the way you will like this forum.Lots of harley savy people.
I had a Goldwing for a few years, sold it and a few years later (Jan2006) I bought my Road King Custom. The only thing they have in common is two wheels. You either want a HD or you don't. Picking which HD to buy can be a chore, but fun. I never rented the ones I was intrested in, but I've heard it suggested and I agree. Compare what you get and the difference between the two bikes, the HD web site allows you to call them up side by side, then once you get it on paper, go to the dealer and look at the differences.
I do not think the Gold Wing and Road King have anything in common. I looked at the GW when I bought my RK and it was just to big. It is a nice bike, just not what i wanted. It is hard to describe but owning a Harley is a lot of fun. I like my RK because i can remove the windshield, backrest and luggage rack. It will cruise all day long at 85. Road 1,500 miles to sturgis last August in 2 days. if you want the radio and stuff then get the Ultra Classic as the difference in price is not that much.
I agree there is no comparison fron Honda GW to HD. If you are used to the fairing, you probably will not be happy without one. I definately suggest a long ride to help make your decision. My Ultra has spoiled me on the highway trips. So much nicer than my Fatboy for a 400- 500 mile day on the interstate.
I just picked up an Ultra and the cruise control and the radio are great. I donât think I could ride a bike without a radio anymore. I know some people will say if your not touring long distances you donât need a radio. Well when Iâm blasting AC/DC Who Made Who on my 8 mile ride to work in the morning it really puts me in a good mood.
Donât let people mislead you on color either. When it comes to Harleys Vivid Black is the FAST color.
