I'm going to Sturgis this year for the first time and was hoping some of you could give me a few must see and do ideas. I will attend some of the drag races hopefully and hit the hill climbs once. Other than some of the bar scenes and assorted concerts venues what else would you suggest. Plus, where's a good place or two to eat. Thanks !
First off, take plenty of different kinds of clothes. You can bet that there will be two or three days that are incredibly hot, a couple of days that it rains constantly, and in the evenings it can get cold as hell. You've got to go to Full Throttle Saloon, the Glenco and Buffalo Chip campgrounds always have great concerts, but they're crowded as hell. Do "Wyoming Wednesday", see Rushmore and Crazy Horse, I also like One Eyed Jacks saloon. You could go on and on about what to do and where to go, but you'll be able to ask anybody there what they reccomend and they'll be glad to help you.
I dont feel you really have to do all that much planning to enjoy Sturgis. Its a riders rally, with plenty to see and do in all directions of Sturgis. Id recommend hitting, crazy horse, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Spearfish Canyon, Black Hills Nat. forest, Deadwood, and Wall Drug Store. If you want to party hard, hit Buffalo Chip camp ground. All, in all, just have a good time, and enjoy the sights and sounds. You may also want to see Devils Tower in WY, and Yellowstone, should you have enough time.
I was there for 10 days the first year and all the planning went out the window. There is so much to see and do, you won't fit it all in. I would stay at the "CHIP", you have to have that experience at least once. The riding is some of the best in the country. Enjoy yourself and just go with the flow. You'll see what I mean when you get there. Have a great time.
you could be in year 4 or 5 before you see it all
it's a great time dont plan on seeing everything your first
day cuz theres alota bikes there.
we went one week early one year and had a blast with no crowds
Been there a few times - must sees are the Badlands, Devils Tower, Spearfish Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, Custer Ntl Park, Needles Highway.
Run over to Gilette Wyoming, get a t-shirt at the HD dealer then turn due north and head for Montana, one of the nicest (desolate) rides. Make sure you fule as you will go about 100 miles without seeing so much as a house or even another vehicle.
Hot Springs is nice and there are a lot of backroads in the Black Hills that get you off the beaten path.
So much to do , so little time when you are there. Wife and I put about 3-400 miles a day on the bike and then headed into Sturgis in the evenings. It can be unbearable hot in town during the day.
