CS, I was at the local HD store today and looked up your poor/failure transmit issue in the HD Electrical Diaganostic Manual for 2007 Touring Models. There are extensive diagnostic procedures for the problem. If it was my bike, I'd personally watch the tech go through each of them until the problem was identified.
At a minium, sit down with the EDM yourself and go through the diagnostic procedure and identify any that haven't been done.
CS, hope you find the problem....I having almost the opposite....mine recieves great, but everyone say I blow them out of the water, way too loud, like overmodulating...they can't understand me at all. Tried the SWR, got it set, factory antenna, J&M antenna even tried another CB madodual...no difference. I'm thinking something in the PTT swtich area...but I don't know.....
I'm ready to throw it away and get a J&M set up.....
someone here point me in the right direction??????
Over modulating can be a couple things.. Talking too loud or too close to the mic or the mic gain in the radio is set way to high.. Id bet on the 2nd.
OK, where is the setting for the mic gain, I know about squelch...but I didn't know about any setting for gain...and I've tried moving the attached mic, both HD and J&M headsets, also hand mic....
The radio receives fantastic, but when it transmits it sounds like the talker is 50 ft from the mic, no output???????
My first thought when I read this, is that you might have a mic problem. Most mics have noise cancelling features that attenuate extraneous noise, such as winds, etc. It could be something as simple as the mic's grill facing the wrong way. It is important with noise cancelling capability to talk directly into the mic, close to your lips. If you don't, you'll get that '50' from the mic' syndrome.
