Hey, Am just about to trade in my 06 softail standard for a 07 ultra. The bike am looking at has standard pipes and is VERY quite. The softail has VH big radi pipes, and is pretty loud. I would like this sort of volume on the bagger, and dont know what pipes would give me this. I know you can put the big radi on baggers but i dont think they look rite in my opinion.
For max volume just remove the slip on mufflers. 6 bolts and no money down.
My exhaust broke at the back of the collector on my 09 and i rode it without mufflers for about 1400 miles. I checked and the bags were not copping any heat from the exh, which surprised me, even at a 90mph cruise speed.
Loud as you can get dude.
Either that or take a look at the Vance and Hines website. They make some nice pipes. The "basic slip ons" are baffleless, flow very well and are as loud as they make. If it aint loud enough then undo 2 screws and you can remove the perimiter sound absorbtion packing and convert it to a hollow tube. Dont be fooled by the name, they are the true performance muffler.

Sound is SOOOOO subjective.... best place to start would be your dealership /watering hole. and give the bikes a listen to. What sounds sweet to me, might be a racket , or a whisper, to YOU.
Give the Ultra a while.... you might enjoy the radio.... LOL
I have S/E slip ons and stage 1 download... just enough rumble, without being a pain.
I have 2 into 1 Thunderheader on my 05 and it is load. I still can here my radio just fine at highway speeds. Like others have said, go to your local biker hang out,see what others have and how they sound.
I have heard a lot of different systems on the '07 Ultras. IMO, the best sounding system is the Rhinehart true duals. I have the Vance and Hines Dresser duals with oval slip ons, and the sound level is the same as the Rhinehart, the Rhines just have a deeper tone I would prefer. At some point, I may check into if the Rhinehart slip ons would fit with my V&H headpipes. One other thing to consider, with the Rhineharts there are some issues with adjustable passenger highway pegs where you have to buy extra parts...no big deal though..
I'm running Jackpot Classic Mufflers with 2.25" baffles....noise level is equal to my old setup which was Supertrapps running 0 discs and no wrap on the baffles. Noise level is equal but sound quality of the Jackpots is awesome.
