There is no doubt that the Road Glide is being dropped because it is last place in touring bike sales.
To my knowledge Harley has never really promoted the RG. It was there if you wanted one but they didn't push it. I don't why they didn't.
Until recently I never liked any bike with any kind of a fairing.
I used to hate the looks of the shark nose but as the years went by I started to like the look. I finally took one for a ride and that was it.
I bought one. Now I love the look and the ride.
It's too bad to see it go but I have mine and will hang on to it. I will probably buy another bike down the road but I don't think I will sell my RG in or trade it away.
It's a keeper.
Just a few weeks ago the Street Glide took the lead in sales of all touring models (even above the Ultra Classic.....I was surprised at that). Road Glide is, and has been last (I think that's why they're not having it in the line up for 2010).
RG is last because it has never been built in near the numbers as the batwings .. But ( economy not withstanding ) they have always sold all they ship out ..
...all in fun and jest of course! (it really is only the yellow ones that are truly Fugly!)
Hey, I might resemble that remark. Pearls are cool, yellow especially. When I got my yellow I was skeptical at first, had nothing but black before. Then in the sunlight, that color is great. I get many compliments from people, usually you do not see a yellow HD much and think it might be custom paint. Just my .03(inflation). Also I didn't need a fast color(insert color here) I know yellow is the slowest color
Haha Your bike aint all that!!! I bought mine for rackin' up the miles! You batwing bikenight posers can slam all you want on the RG, Goldwing, jap bike whatever! It's still a Harley! And it's sweeeeeet!
I think the Bat wing folks may be insecure cause I always get a kick out of how they get soo very mad when we state the obvious that a rigid to the frame fairing hadles better at speed than a fork mounted fairing.
Also about the "plastic" the batwing is plastic and so are the huge clear windshields on most roadkings..
I love my road glide, if they discontinue it oh well at least they'll be less of them on the road, I'm not a lemming and don't need to follow the majority..
Another thing I don't understand is why would anyone buy a street glide when they can buy a Police electra with the 103" engine... Both have the same batwing fairing, I'd rather put my own radio and speakers in, It would sound better and be cheaper than upgrading to a 103 in a street glide..
Like all else to each his own, we all like what we like and that's why we bought it. I rented an Ultra Classic in CA and rode up PCH 1 and through monterey valley and back down through to Solvang CA, (BTW people at Santa Maria Harley were great) anyways.. The differance in ride on the highway in wind is huge, My FLTR barely sways or wanders in high winds the Ultra was all over the place and to push hard and lean into the wind to keep it staright, and yes we do have high winds here in MA and NH.. On the PCH the ride was mostly the same as slower speeds there is not much of a diff, but when pushing the bike on monterey valley road the Ultra would flex and wiggle. I have a chopped tourpack on my RG so the weight difference isn't much.. Also the Rented Ultra was empty, just raingear and a sweatshirt in the tourpack..
SERIOUSLY ?? didnt harley build this bike in the 80s If it was the end all to end all why did they Quit? Personal opinion only but my friends dont let friends ride them To us its the uglyst bike harley ever built
They quit making them becuase of all the trailer queens that buy electra glides. I have never seen a Road Glide on a trailer, now I'm sure somewhere it has happened but you see "big burly bikers" in a van with a ultra on a trailer headed to Daytona all the time on the I-95 corridor.
I have owned both fairings and the RG handles much better and the looks really grow on you.
