After purchasing my 09, I was stuck between Rineharts & Vance & Hines slip-ons. I ended up going with the Rinehart slip-ons, installed them & then too them off after 2 rides. I was extremely dissapointed with how they sounded, which was to me like a slightly louder than stock pipe with a deep tone but no rough bark like I wanted. I replaced my Rineharts with V&H basic slip-ons & couldn't be happier. They're louder than the Rineharts, have a fatter sound & ALOT more bark when you want them too. If I would have went with the V&H's in the first place I would have saved myself almost $200 bucks! Another lesson learned I guess? I'll never put anything else on my bike...V&H for life!
I've got them on my '01 RKC and they are great sounding pipes. What is said above is true, they can be stealth leaving the driveway and bark loud when you roll-on on the highway.
I must confess though that I've been eying the V&H Fishtail slip-ons as I do prefer the look. My guess though is they are no where near as deep sounding. I used to have a pair of Straight shots and even witht eh optional quiet baffle, they were LOUD. It is nice with the basics to not have to wear ear plugs for the short run to the store.
They are louder than stock, but not annoying. I would say maybe a 7 out of 10?
I think the biggest difference between them and stock on my 2009 RKC is at idle and lower speeds. At higher speeds, I think the stock mufflers sound decent, but the V&H's do sound better.
I know there are riders much older than I am that may be burned out from riding with louder pipes. In my opinion, these are just right, and make the bike sound like a HD should.
Personally, I wouldn't want anything on there that was less loud than these.
You will be very pleased with the fit and finish of these pipes. My buddy just put them on his 2009 Electra Glide Classic(stock head pipes). Had them installed in no time. No fuel management or download. Left the intake/filter stock for now. I did not hear any decel popping when he pulled away from my house.
Go with the V&H you will not regret it. And I'd also say about a 7 outa 10 for loudness. You're not gonna annoy those you ride with unless you want to.
