71590-96A brake light switch $24, now obsolete but several dealers still have. Superseded to 71621-08 $60. I'd call around up there and find a dealer with the -96A part still in stock.

Congrats, Papa Harley, and welcome from Kansas City. I had a similar problem with my rear brake, only I didn't know it. Had it at the dealer for new tires last year and they noticed the brake light was on. They said I had a bad spring (or maybe switch) that wasn't holding the brake switch open, so it was on all the time. I've never looked at the manual since they fixed it, but check it out and I'll bet it's easy to find and fix. If I remember right, it was very inexpensive, even with the dealer doing it.

Papa,

I also have '99 RK, I experience this problem from time to time. Before you rip it apart, just try shooting some WD40 in and around the switch plunger, this seems to fix it for me. I just replaced the switch last spring and it was flashing agian this spring, the WD40 did the job.

For the play in the break lever, I just had to replace a little plastic bushing that the pin runs through, this remedied the wiggling up and down of the lever. The old one had worn out.

Enjoy the '99 King. I sure love mine!

Well did the WD40 last night and the switch seems better.I do think the plunger is the culprit.I will get a new switch as they are cheap and i will need it later..Thanks again

You maple leafs are slow to wait 30 years...but then again it did take 6 months for my yankee wife to move from metric to her heritage.

you'll love the road king....great bike......

Welcome and ride safe!
