I’ve done a search and can’t really find what I’m looking for…
I understand that the quick disconnect is the way to go for the tour pack, fast and the best of both worlds… However, I’d like to see if I like it without it before I pay $300+ to have a removable tour pack that I don’t remove.
Does anyone just remove the tour pack the “hard way” and then install it for long trips.
As best as I can see (famous last words), it appears that there are two bolts holding it on by the shock bracket and then the license plate bracket. Is that it?
It's more than just removing 4 bolts. You have to remove the front saddlebag mount to get at the bolts holding the front tourpak mount, it takes about 30-45 minutes to do the tourpak and the riders backrest, and get the bags back on. The detachable is really quick and the way to go if you plan on doing it alot.
I take mine off and on without the quick connect. Takes me about 1.5 hours if I take my time. It is a pretty easy job after you have done it once or twice. The bike really handles good without it, but I miss the extra storage the tour pak provides.
If you do a search there is some good reading on what all is involved. If you cant find it, I would be glad to guide you thru it. Here is a picture without it, and I bought a badlander seat which is not in the photo.
I've done it, but the antennas have to be disconnected and there are 4 bolts thru the trunk that have to come out. then you have ground plates too. it's a lot of trouble for the return.
Personally enjoy the quick Detach Tour pack with the Back Rest Combo as don't really Use the Tour Pack except when travelling.. Even if used the Tour pack 90% of the time to me the extra money is worth it.. Even though retired can make better use of my time than spending an hour removing or reinstalling when can swap them out and put the other away and be riding in less than 5 mins..
Jerm, Just wondering if you took your tourpak off yet? If so, did you find it hard to do? and do you think you will be buying the detach kit. I'm in the same boat. I just bought an '03 ultra and want to put on the detach kit, but the dealer quoted my $860 just for the parts. gotta love canadian dealers. Anyways I'll have to track down the right part numbers and see what I can find on ebay or do it the hard way like your talking about.
