I have an 05 Ultra. Yesterday, I had a fairly consistent problem with the rearmost latch on the tour pak. After my wife and I rode about twenty miles and stopped to eat, I noticed that the latch was no longer properly closed. The bottom part of it was closed, but the top part of it had backed off enough that the catch (the part of the latch that stays with the upper lid), had come loose from the latch itself. The front one did not do that. So, when we left, I relatched the pak and locked it. When we got home, it had happened again.
It appears that the front and rear latches have about the same amount of "play" in them. Anyone else have a problem with this?
Thanks. What is driving me the most nuts is that I can't find a common denominator. Sometimes it's doing it, and sometimes it isn't. I'll have to take some pictures and post them for all to see.
My 04 is fine except I have to check them from time to time to see if I latched them. Check with the dealer and make sure that it has the shim behind it. It sounds like it's too far away from the latch and catch.
No heavy load at all. It seems to happen pretty much regardless of what's in it. Next time I am near my dealer (about 40 miles away), I'll have them take a look at it. I still can't find a common denominator.
I know when I close my Pac sometimes it does not sit exactly where it should. I have to jiggle it a bit to get it to seat properly and then the locks will line up and close.

"Tojo" makes a good point here.
The Tour-Pak lid is a bit floppy on it's tiny hinges, so make sure it sits down squarely before flicking the latches.
One other point....
It's easy to over-stuff a Tour-Pak, and still get the lid to close and latch (using a bit of force).
But each time you do that, you weaken the pot-metal latches a little bit more. Eventually, the latches lose their tension and get sloppy.
