In all honesty, I'd stick with the HD chrome forks as opposed to getting them chromed or getting some ebay deal. The HD chrome forks are pretty damn good quality.
Went with HD, dealer installed... really made a difference in the overall look of the front end of the bike... finally looked "finished". Quality seems to be first rate.
e-bay seller. Original Harley chromed lowers. $125. Chrome is perfect. My 99 had chrome lowers from a local chrome shop and they were perfect also but much more expensive.
I got mine from a local chrome swap exchange place here in hayward,ca called High luster. One fork beautiful but the other fork peeled before we even had the bike finished (mockup stages) so we had to have that one replaced. Overall good quality only $180 swapped but if I do another build Im running the dealer ones for sure.
Heres a pic to show you the quality
Bought mine from a chromer on Ebay: http://myworld.ebay.com/grog42 for $190 delivered. Great quality, 100% positive feedback. Very pleased- 100% Harley lowers.
Bought a James Genuine Gaskets seal, oring and and clip kit for $12 from the Drag Book (both sides). HD wanted $12 bucks just for one seal.....
Whatever you get, even from HD, if its chrome plated and has blind threaded holes, be sure to chase the threads with a sharp tap before you install any hardware. Dont ask me how I know.....
