In addition, seat the clutch cable in you lever before you fasten down the cover. I didn't and had to undo it to get enought slack back to seat it in the lever.

Biggest problem I had replacing clutch cable was figuring how it attached to the ramp. I removed the monster slip ring and then I figured it out. Don't unscrew the cable from the case till you get the cable off the ramp. Collapse your adjuster all the way and pull cable off lever. The anchor to the ramp must be twisted almost 180 degrees to slide out of the ramp. Yes screwing new cable case into tranny is a treat. look at it before you remove old, it does not thread straight in plus you have to "spin" the entire cable to get it started.

?

I am about to do this as soon as my bars come. I have done two bar changes before.

Not worried about the throttle brake and wiring but I never did the clutch cable.

It looks simple enough but I am wondering why some of you guys take the circlip off to remove the cable and some don't?

Looking at the pic of the case off the bike it looks like with enough slack you could get that cable off without removing that circlip by just spinning it around to the front.

Once that cable is off is it just a matter of un threading the cable from the case and rethreading the new one?

How tight should that be when threaded back in?

I have a service manual so if the torque specs are in there I will find it.

Just basically wondering about taking it all apart to remove cable from lever.

Thanks

The way the cable was attached to mine I couldn't bend it to the 90+ degree angle required to get it 'unhooked' had to take the clip off. Its wasn't that bad once I stopped babying it. I had to do it twice cause I forgot the rubber o ring the first time...

Tighten it so that it is seated then give it a little more. The key here is a good seal not a tightened cable. Lots of stories about guys over tightening it.

Does the cable come with the O ring or do you have to buy that separate?

mine came with the o-ring, I screwed the cover on the cable, once it seated, I turned it just enough to be tight, not torqued. has not leaked yet.

I am pretty sure I had to pick one up from HD, if I remember right they are under a buck.

Try this web site, I installed 12.5" black powder coated Chubby's on my 08 Streetglide and purchased everything from Johnny. Tell him what bars you are going to install and he will tell you what length clutch, throttle and brake cables you need, he also carries wire extensions with the correct Harley colors, pins and they even come with shrink tubing.
I was impressed that when I got my bars and hardware I was ready to go, just add tranny fluid and gasket, brake fluid and take your time it's a time consumming job.
