After several months of dealing with decel popping the problem was cured by simply adjusting my throttle to remove any slop this simple fix has inspired me to dig deeper in the service manual and learn more about the maintenance of the bike this forum is the best.
From what i'm told upon decel if throttle does not snap back completely there is some gas causing popping. idle is same not sure if throttle cured this but problem solved after adjustment and very happy.
The two things don't have anything to do with each UNLESS you have tightened the throttle cable to the point that it never fully disengages.
Tell us a little about your ride, Are you using the stock head pipe with the V&H Ovals? Or did you change it out?
When did the problem start to happen? Before or after you added the Fuel Pack?
The most common cause of popping is a leak somewhere in the exhaust. Usually they will be up near where the header pipe connects to the heads. I've also read that people found they had very small leaks where the slip on connected up to the header pipe.
I started getting a decel pop on my 09 all stock around 1100 miles it started. Of course I ride the hell out of it usually over 4k rpms when pushing it. I can also make it pop more on decel if I feather the throttle. I can even get a slight flame. I don't think its a good thing but the dealer said its fine.

Thats funny I do that to on purpose sometimes. If I down shift in the upper rpms my Thunderheader pops and gurgles, than if I slightly open the throttle just a bit and than shut it again sometimes I can get some real loud pop, pop, pop, KABLAM!!!
