Default 09 Ultra didn't start....

09 Ultra didn't start after I filled it with gas. I heard a klunk noise by the lower part of the engine. When I tried to start again, the fuel pump sounded (as usual) but then a clicking noise w/ absolutly no turn over. Dealer has bike now. I'll let you guys know thats happening.

How many miles did you have on it? Was it in for it's first oil change yet?

Just talk to dealer. after checking battery and loosening starter, mechanic determined the main ground for the bike, bolt was loose. After tightening it, dealer says it's ok. Hope he is right. i'll keep you posted.

The clunk noise was most likely the solenoid engaging - remember you only have 12 volts - a loose connection could drop several volts. The result would be insufficient voltage to push the starter's current demand. I would have suspected the positive as the culprit myself. Good call by the wrench.

I just had the same thing occur yesturday. Stopped for gas, hit the starter button "Klunk", second time "Klunk", third time it started. Worked ok the next few stops, I was out with the local hog chapter, then "Klunk" on another attempt and then it started. I'm going to check it out with a volt meter today to see if I have any voltage drops anywhere. Otherwise, looks like i'll be getting some warrantee work.

You may want to start looking at the Compensator in the Primary. The 96's are just barely rated, and if you upped to a 103, this will be pretty much mandatory
