Sorry to hear of your pinful (sp) problem. But I have seen a LOT of baggers with some sort of outrigger wheels attached. Don't give up that shark for a clownfish.

That's just "plane" cool!

Eddy G's idea of lowering the bike and a narrower, lower seat might also help.
The physical therapy idea helped me a lot. (2 major knee reconstructions on both knees and left ankle surgery) I now do specific exercises for my legs and that has helped tremendously.

I've had the bagger for 3 months now and have almost layed it down like 30 times, never have but my knee and ankle just can't take it.....

When we went to Tombstone last month I almost dropped it in the gravel at our hotel (whole parking lot was gravel), when I got home I almost couldn't walk for 3 days from my ankle swelling up.

This is the best bike i've ever owned by far...

how the hell do I shave 200 lbs off this thing?

I could probably loose 30-40 lbs myself but that's not going to help the ankle... knee probably the ankle has been destoyed for almost 20 years.

THIS SUCKS!!

washing it sucks *** as well... hahahaa
You are in a tight for sure. Have you considered graduating to a trike?

I'm sorry to read this, but I can understand. When I got my 09 SG, I parked it in my driveway that has a little bit of a down slope with the jiffy stand pointed down the hill. I'm in good shape, but it was all I could do to get the bike off the stand. I've done that many times with my 02 RKC and didn't have much trouble. Try an older bike first to see it the loss of 80lbs helps. An 08 still has the ABS and Bembo and larger tank. And leave the touring pack off, that might be enough to keep the Harley.

Sorry to hear about you medical set back. If your a solo tourer you may want to wait and see if that Road Rod (VROD with the RG fairing and hard bags) is a myth or true.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm 6-4, it's the weight of the bike that is killing me, not the height or center of gravity. It needs to be at least 150lbs less... I appreciate the help. The knee can hurt but the ankle is my main concern here.

This is the main problem....

yes that's my right ankle.... lol

2 surguries to screw everything back together (same place) and 4 more orthoscopic ones from the side to remove bone spurs.

Anytime I have to walk the bike is when the most damage is done...

yes I have a great pair of Boots..

I think a softail or dyna is in my future... which sucks but at least i can still ride. This wasn't an issue with my old bikes, at least I know where my limit is.

Thanks for the help.

so now... softail custom, deluxe or back to a wide glide?

Heres another option, http://www.trikealternative.com/

Is teaching your other half to ride her own an option?

If you want to keep the bike bad enough then get you a personal trainer and strengthen your body. I do some training in a gym and I've seen people completely change their body in a few months. If you lose a few pounds and gain some muscle you can keep riding for as long as you like, you just need to decide how bad you want to do it. After you learn what you need to do you won't need the trainer, you can do it on your own.
