Lightbulb Remove Rush baffles...redneck style

Heres how I got the baffles out: After removing the allen bolt and nut, I backed the bike up to about 4 or 5 feet from the basketball goal that is concreted into the ground. (Any solid object will do, I'm sure) Using my 1" ratchet strap, I put one end around the pole and hooked the other end to the steel rod welded across the baffle. With my wife holding the front brake, I slowly started ratcheting the handle while keeping an eye on the headpipe/muffler joint and the rest of the exhaust system. Don't want to break or crack anything upstream! Oddly enough, the baffles slid easily out about a quarter of the way, when I started to feel a little resistance. It was the fiberglass packing bunching up at the rear of the baffle. After removing the strap, I wiggled the baffle back and forth, up and down while pulling back by hand. Came out after a few seconds. Using a tip I read about here, I used my shop-vac and an old rag to clean out the muffler. Sprayed a little WD-40 on the ends of the new baffles, then tapped them in with a hammer and 1 X 3" piece of wood. TADAAA! Two beers and fifteen minutes later, the new baffles are in! Maybe a little redneck, but it worked great. Wife thought it was pretty entertaining. Necessity is the mother of invention, right?

Sounds like an excellent example of an "elegant solution" to me, not "redneck" at all (or maybe it is also "redneck" since the goals are the same).

In case this isn't a familiar term, DEFINITION:
An elegant solution represents refinement and simplicity rather than fussiness or ostentation. An elegant solution, often referred to in relation to problems in disciplines such as mathematics, engineering, and programming, is one in which the maximum desired effect is achieved with the smallest, or simplest effort. Engineers, for example, seek the elegant solution as a means of solving a problem with the least possible waste of materials and effort.

ETA: Yep, I copied this definition , another "elegant solution" but not mine... .

Well I was an engineer for about 40 years but I can't remember if I ever came up with one as elegant as yours.

I thought you would have backed up to the basketball pole, revv'ed up, and dropped the clutch. Now that is redneck, don't ask me how I know.

If you would have tried that with my rusted left side Rush muffler you would be still sitting there scratching your head. Took a 20 ton press to push that baffle out.

Works for me! Elegant Solution does that procedure justice!

I reached in with my bare hands and they pulled right out, took all of 5 mins. But dumping the clutch would have been more intertaining.
