Default Cape May ferry

Going down to the Del. beaches this summer. Anybody ever take the Cape May/Lewes ferry on a bike. Do you recommend reservations or just show up. Also IF you get there early and there is room will they board you? Any thing else I should know.

Thanks

Its a pretty cool ride, a little over an hour ,depending on the sea. If your going in season and you need to keep on time you may want to make a reservation . We have always rode on, no problem without reservations but, on a sat. afternoon in summer , people going to the outlets in del. it can back up. If you get there early , infront of the parking lot your ok . if your late the lot to load gets full then your bumped to next boat.Have fun!

Just rode it last Sunday. We rode up from Orlando Fl. Ended up catching the last ferry out. The lady said to be there at least 30 minutes ahead of time if we don't have a reservation. We were about 20 min and had no problem getting on but that was about 730 in the evening. They have there stuff down pat though, we had pretty rough water but the bikes didn't move a bit. Was an enjoyable ride and would like to take it again in better weather and light.

If the seas are up, take a strap to keep the bike on its kickstand.

Most of the time they just move the bikes to the front of the line. I wouldn't be too concerned about reservations unless there are more than 5 or 6 of you. Then you may get seperated.

We have a ferry that we ride a few times a year. One piece of advise is to be on your bike when it docks. Some times they hit fairly hard and the bike tries to roll forward.
