Thanks everyone.
I do feel lucky and i beleive the steel was already in the road and the truck drove over it just as i did.
i do feel however that if not for my many years of riding, and constant practance with defensive driving manuevers, and a motorcycle that can take the punishment, things would have ended alot differant. My daughter has a small honda rebal and she is eager to ride and it makes me very nervouse. if that happeded to her it would have been fatal.
My fear today was not going down on the pavement, but getting run over after i hit the ground.
Rubber chunks on the road make me nervous (always hopin that the main piece of tire ain't the next thing to come rollin out from under the cager in front of me). I hate ridin though Houston!
Thanks everyone.

I appreciate you stating that you felt the truck just ran over it first, being a truck driver (one who has had some POS try to file a similar claim on me for running over a bumper on the freeway and messing up both vehichles) that way too many people jump to the conclusion that the truckers are always at fault (just as some of the posters in this thread have indicated) I guess there are always lots of people that want to sue for anything?

I know your pain Brother. On a rainy night in Phoenix (Yes it rains here once in a while) Some Chick felt she could zip around a tanker truck. She clips the trucks bumper. Spins around and clips me, causeing me to spin back head frist in to the truck. The truck hit me head on...... My lincoin is Toast. Cops come and pin it all on the truck driver. Until I told them to check the girl's car. They saw where she hit the truck and my car too. They still Blamed the trucker.
Glad you were able to ride it out. Here are two somoilar situations I was involved in.
1st one was a 2' long 4x4 timber from a flat bed wrecker. After several spins and flips it ebded up directly in front of me at 65 mph. Blew out both tires, bend both rims. Buddies I was riding with caught up with driver. The wrecker company paid for everything!!
2nd incident was returning from work on the interstate when a fuel tanker passes me. A few minutes later he swerves hard to the left causing his for lack of a better word "nozzle compartment door" to fling open. Several nozzles, couplings etc needed for fuel delivery are bouncing all over the road. Several cars swerve to avoid them. I was fortunate enough to miss all of them but my buddy caught a piece on his right foot. Bad bruise and no walking for a few days.
The driver of the tanker stopped a few miles down the road where I caugh up to him and explained what had happened. My buddies insurance company covered the incident. Very dangersous due to incompetence!!
I have a CDL and know what the requirements are for securing loads.
Glad you are ok that is why I went ahead and took out the tire and wheel insurance on my bike I had a similar thing happen a few years ago with a tire that only had 75 miles on it.
