He still gave me a ticket because my insurance cards did not actually state the dollar amounts of my insurance coverage. They do have the following statement across the face, Meets the minimum required by laws of the State of Texas.
I also found this on the DPS's website...
7. Does the insurance card have to state that the insurance affords benefits of at least $10,000 for injuries incurred as a result of a motorcycle accident?
No. Major health insurance plans almost always provide at least $10,000 coverage, generally more. Moreover, the Departments administrative rules do not require the insurance card to display the amount of policy coverage. Therefore, an insurance card such as provided by an employer, group health insurance company (HMO/PPO), the Veterans Administration, Medicare or Medicaid, is prima facie proof that the coverage meets statutory requirements and is satisfactory proof of the required coverage. Insurance cards for life insurance policies, cancer only policies, or accidental death and dismemberment policies do not meet the health insurance plan requirement as they have a more narrow coverage than is required by the statute.
happened to me riding my enduro.....trooper pulled me over and explained he didn't see the sticker so he wanted to let me know the law. I showed him my health insurance card and he said that wasn't good enough, I had to have "special" insurance! He had a Harley and was fixing to go to the RAlly in Galveston, so he wrote me up a warning and told me....boy, just wear a helmet!
Everyone can jump my A$$ on this one but here in California I would love to see that here. And if you are not in compliance they should impound your vehicle.
Very selfishly every time I have been rear ened it has always been by some dumb bastard with out insurance. They did not own anything thing so there was nothing to sue or claim to get my vehicle fixed. So it comes out of my pocket and insurance.
It is BS. Just another way to harass freedom loving independent thinking Bikers. They don't like us because we don't conform to their cookie cutter sheep in line mentality. It is pure and simple harassment. Do other vehicles need to show proof of insurance stickers on there plates?

we have those also in TX, but they mainly drive landscape trucks, astro vans or chevy celbreties! you can almost tell by the car who's driving and who's not insured....don't see many on bikes at all, especially harleys (well they are on bikes but they are the cheap $69 Huffy type from Walmart)
OK fine I guess that's what they do in Texas, but what's this about an unmarked car making traffic stops? Are you sure it was unmarked or just one of those sort of low profile highway patrol cars? I know some aren't the classic black and white but they still have to be marked with emblem on the door, etc before they can be used for traffic enforcement - at least here in Calif that's how it is.
