OK fine I guess that's what they do in Texas, but what's this about an unmarked car making traffic stops? Are you sure it was unmarked or just one of those sort of low profile highway patrol cars? I know some aren't the classic black and white but they still have to be marked with emblem on the door, etc before they can be used for traffic enforcement - at least here in Calif that's how it is.
Not like that here in Illinois. Unmarked cars are used for traffic stops here. Many state troopers drive unmarked mustangs or camaros.
I got pulled over the other day for doing 72 in a 65. I thought he was being a little strict, but he just gave me a warning, even though I didn't have my motorcycle insurance card with me. I was wearing a helmet, and he did not ask for any proof of medical insurance.
Jackja25 – he told me the sticker was optional but “should” prevent me from being pulled over in the future.
Beeracuda – thanks for the info from TXDPS. I will use this in my defense letter to get the ticket dismissed.
Arizona – I called the car unmarked but it is one of those almost unmarked cars. All Black, with black police sticker down the side. Pretty obvious it is a police car. APD has a number those running around Austin these days.
Anyway I called the number on the ticket, got another number to call to register a complaint, did that and now I’m over it.
It just sucks to see our civil liberties dwindling away.
Thats f-ing sucks. That means you can get pulled over for doing nothing wrong. Then if you had a beer at the local watering hole you get a DUI for doing the all th right things like driving the speed limit, using your turn signal, not wearing a helmet (which is legal in TX) and you end up getting into hot water for not having enough HEALTH insurance cuz you dont have a sticker on your tag that says so. WTF
Waco PD uses unmarked cars for traffice patron. I see them almost everyday at lunch time. Normally they have someone pulled over writing them a ticket...
I don't have a problem with it as long as they pull over people in cars and trucks to check for insurance. The reason our under insured/uninsured rates are so high is because of all the people that don't have insurance. And the illegals are not all of the problem. There are plenty of "home grown Americans" in my home state and I am sure in other states that don't have insurance.
Just read today that there is a bill in Illinois on the governor's desk for him to sign that changes the punishment to a year in jail for driving without insurance. Don't remember all the specifics but that is a step in the right direction.

In Arizona, they can be completely unmarked.... Until you see the red and blues flip on in the grill.
7. Does the insurance card have to state that the insurance affords benefits of at least $10,000 for injuries incurred as a result of a motorcycle accident?
No. Major health insurance plans almost always provide at least $10,000 coverage, generally more. Moreover, the Departments administrative rules do not require the insurance card to display the amount of policy coverage. Therefore, an insurance card such as provided by an employer, group health insurance company (HMO/PPO), the Veterans Administration, Medicare or Medicaid, is prima facie proof that the coverage meets statutory requirements and is satisfactory proof of the required coverage. Insurance cards for life insurance policies, cancer only policies, or accidental death and dismemberment policies do not meet the health insurance plan requirement as they have a more narrow coverage than is required by the statute.
I was about to post that also. Find the cop or his watch commader and bring the law to them. Or go see a judge in his chambers and bring the law and the ticket with you. You will get it signed off.
Police dont always know the law.
