I know this has probably been beat to death but I thought I'd ask anyway just for clarification. When the time comes to change my oil which synthetic do y'all recommend/use? I use Mobil 1 synthetic in my trucka nd have been very happy with it...and I can get Mobil 1 20/50 motorcycle oil at Wal-Mart so I was thinking of going with it since it will be easy to find, there si a very good biker store down the road about 30 miles that carries Amsoil though and I've always heard good stuff about it. Of the two which would be the better option? Also what are the oil change intervals when using synthetic in my FLTR? I go 5,000 in my trucka nd the oil still looks good but i know it'll be a whole different animal when comparing a Chevrolet Z-71 to a 96" air cooled V-twin.
Woohooo Another oil thread. We haven't had one in at least a week. I use Mobil 1 20w-50 but any synthetic oil that meets the manufacturers specifications is fine and I think they all do.
Mobil1 15-50 Synthetic $26.00 5qt. jug from Wal-Mart. Change every 5K miles.
Mobil1 75-90 Synthetic Tranny Oil $8.00 any auto parts store. Change once a season.
Castrol GTX 10-40 Dino $2.50qt for Primary from Wal-Mart. Change once a season.
HD Super Premium Oil Filters. I buy 6 at a time from either Chicago HD or Zanottis online @ 20% off. Your filter is the weakest link in your lubrication cycle, why scrimp on it? It has the best filtering rating of any filter on the market. Change every 2500 miles.
I use the SE Harley oil...its high quality oil thats got a blend of 3 different base stocks.
Typically, the best synthetic oils use a combination of up to three different synthetic base fluids--polyalphaolefin , (PAO), synthetic esters, and alkylated aromatics. Really though, if you read around enough you'll find that changing your oil around every 2500 miles is the most important thing to consider, no matter what you use. Thats it, no more oil discussion! (With the cost of things though, I may check into the Mobile 15w 50...plus Super Tech makes a full synthetic 20w 50 for about 17 bucks for 5 quarts. Find it at Wal-Mart )
