Well I spent the day at the local dealer trying to negotiate a deal on an 09 EG standard... Why does it feel like the dealer is always trying to rape us? I am looking to trade my 08 VRSCDX in on the EG... They offered me 12500 for my bike (not too bad), but they wanted 19K for this EG. Even before we started talking trade, they wanted 19K. The bike is denim black, ABS, cruise...they put about 600 worth of parts on it (f/r black diamond floor boards and black mirrors with holes in the stems).... still doesn't add up. Their offer for my bike included an extra 1000 for my custom parts (I have receipts of more than 4K in parts alone)..... I'm not done negotiating, yet, but man I get soooo F'ing tired of talking to these people. The EG standard is supposed to be the cheap touring bike...I guess its a good thing I didn't want one of the high end bikes!
As long as new buyers keep shelling out for those kinds of fluff money prices dealers will continue to inflate prices. In most cases it's just better to hold out and buy something a year or two old.
Stick to your guns and dont be afraid to walk away. Weekends are the worst time to buy... lots of floor traffic leads to the "if you don't buy it someone else will" attitude. Better to get them mid week when not so many prospective buyers in there.
maybe....my salesman said they have had this bike for awhile...one of the first 09's that they received. He also said they need to get rid of it (I have known this guy for a couple years). Right now, its the sales manager that is bugging me. I'll mess around with these cats this coming week, if I can't get what I need, I will just wait a bit longer and try to pick up a used one.... I guess we will see.
side note/question. The radio kit for the standard, why does it require dealer install?
They want a bit over 20 grand for one near me. There is a police EG for 16500 out the door sitting right next to it though. Solid white with the 103" motor...2009 model. Chrome package on the motor.
