Its also hard to negotiate on a bike they added stuff to. These retards think they create "custom" bikes by add stuff out of the catalog and expect you to pay full labor and retail on the parts. While if you bought a stock bike you would get up to 20% off the parts and deals on the labor. Try haggling on a stock bike.

Dealer near me adds $1000 to $1500 or so to EVERY bike they sell. Its listed on the sticker as "Accessories..............$1495." Added right into the final price..I asked "What if you don't want the added stuff, I'll add as I go "? To bad, thats the price jack.

An anchaint Hebrew proverb. "Buy after the 25th of any month for large ticket items" Meaning. Companies review the books for the month to see what they made, and what they need to do.
I dealt with 3 different dealers. One was eliminated quickly and the other two were fairly serious. I stayed with one till after dark one night trying to make a deal. The next day I bought from the other one. When I talked with the salesman I didn't buy from, he said he couldn't believe I "did that to him" for $200 to $300.
MSRP on an FLHT starts at $16999. For 19k I wouldn't take anything less than an FLHTC!
Dawg is right on the money. I know so many people that are fine paying over MSRP. They dont care. We do. I would walk. It says right on Harley's website what you should pay. Why in the world would you pay more? I bought my bike in June of 07, and bought it for less than MSRP. I know they are still making money even at what I paid.
Those dealers that add on usually never have the old parts laying around too. It is laughable. They add 300 dollars worth of HD crap and you pay 2000 more for it, yet try to get that on the trade in. You should see what others will give you on your trade and find the bike at MSRP. This is one of the better times to buy an 09 before it is a has been when the 2010s come out, and I mean that in a great way.
I just would never be able to walk in and buy or get advise from a dealer that screwed the crap out of me right out of the box and I smiled and took it.
A guy I work with paid 3k over MSRP for a 08 SG He had nothing but problems with that bike right out of the box. The saddle bag locks didnt match his bike, battery had issues(not going to hang the dealer for that one), nice couple of scratches on it, only given one key, no FOB little extras missing. Long story short.....he didn't care. He told me that even though he has to argue with them, they covered everything. My way of thinking is he overpaid by 3k for a substandard bike and waste his time with each fix for days and somehow this is a victory? I guess if your willing to overpay, this is the service you expect.
No sure on the dealer having to do the install or not, but I bought the radio and they installed mine for free as part of the "deal" for the sale of the bike. That was all I asked for in the deal.

+1 The guy that use to own the dealership near me did that. WTF. Half the fun is getting a stock one and fixing it to your liking not his. And for sure he would jack the pricer up rediculously for his special customizing. Like I said, he used to be the owner.
Well I spent the day at the local dealer trying to negotiate a deal on an 09 EG standard... Why does it feel like the dealer is always trying to rape us? I am looking to trade my 08 VRSCDX in on the EG... They offered me 12500 for my bike (not too bad), but they wanted 19K for this EG. Even before we started talking trade, they wanted 19K. The bike is denim black, ABS, cruise...they put about 600 worth of parts on it (f/r black diamond floor boards and black mirrors with holes in the stems).... still doesn't add up. Their offer for my bike included an extra 1000 for my custom parts (I have receipts of more than 4K in parts alone)..... I'm not done negotiating, yet, but man I get soooo F'ing tired of talking to these people. The EG standard is supposed to be the cheap touring bike...I guess its a good thing I didn't want one of the high end bikes!
Any advise from the forum?
Chris
I guess I don't understand your rant. I added up MSRP from the HD site and came up with this:
EG Standard (color) MSRP $17,449
ABS 795
Cruise 270
Freight 375
dealer installed options 600
Total $19,489
Are you expecting them to give you retail for your bike and sell you the new one for wholesale? It sounds like a standard deal to me. You might be able to negotiate a better price, but it certainly isn't so bad as to get upset about it.
What's the big deal? Go somewhere else. Take off all your extras on your bike and put your stock stuff back on and sell them on ebay. They'll still give you the same trade in. I had everything on my '05 taken off by the dealer and added to my '08 (except for the 103) at no extra cost. If you feel you are getting screwed, you'll never be happy so don't do the deal...go somewhere else...if you don't then you're telegraphing the sales manager to go ahead and .... (you know what)... you could wait six weeks and get a '10.
