I just finished installing my SOOS 1" rider floorboard extensions. Quality product with good instructions. Just sitting on the bike feels better with my feet out a little and my knees not hitting the tank. Will know better when I go riding tomorrow.
When I removed the floorboard on the left side to install the SOOS extensions, I noticed what I thought were boot marks. I thought that the marks would just come off with a little WD-40. Not the case. Further inspection revealed that the marks were exactly parallel with the inside edge of the floorboard insert. It seems that the Nostalgic inserts are more compliant or "cushiony" than the stockers and with my foot position toward the outside of the floorboard, I was unknowingly pushing the inside edge of the insert against the left side case, causing the scratches.
So, this is meant as a "heads up" to those with optional inserts in their floorboards (don't know if the stockers cause any problems). If you don't need to move your floorboards out 3/4" or 1", at least check that you're not hitting the case with the insert. Perhaps a couple of flat washers between the floorboard bracket and the frame would solve the potential problem.
Trying to understand how the floorboard insert would contact the engine case. I have not gone out to the garage to look, but I would think that the floorboards are at least an inch away. Is it possible they are from the heel of your boots?.

They will hit when folded, even with stock inserts. Other than that I can't see how the rider's foot position could cause the inserts to move far enough to hit, they just don't move enough.
I went out to the garage and measured. You guys are right. There is now more than 1-1/2" between the insert and the case, so originally there was at least 1/2" between the insert and the case. The marks must have been casuse by my boot heel. And now I feel like a "heel " for putting out wrong information!!! Well at least now with the extensions, my boot shouldn,t get anywhere near the case.
