Default shifter linkage advice

I was replacing the stock shifter linkage with cover to a HD stainless steel linkage. The diagram of the old linkage on the instructions shows the ends inverted directions yet the one I took off had the bolts going from the outside in. The diagram for the new placement also has them going inverted. If I do that I would have to extend the linkage and placing it on the inside of the front shifter lever to miss the jug and it seems close to the engine but placing it on outside of the shifter lever seems to have it running a little out of line but maybe not enough to matter. Appreciate any help.

Not sure what linkage your talking about, but if its the stock linkage that comes from Harley. Do yourself a favor and replace the linkage joints with stainless steel hime joints.

I just replaced mine with a hime joint one. I did what the directions said, put it on the inside of the front shift lever. It's close, but it doesn't hit the jug. With the linkage outside the lever, it looked "off angle", but I'm sure it would work just fine either way. As long as doesn't bind on anything you'll be good.

+1 The instructions are wrong. When I followed the instructions- the linkage hit the jug.
