I had a very positive experience with a local dealer so thought I'd mention them since we usually only hear the stealer stories.

I bought my '07 Ultra used, just over 1 year ago. The original warranty expired 4/1/09. I noticed the primary was leaking 3 weeks ago, as (bad) luck would have it - 3 weeks after the warranty expired.

In the vein of K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid), Sunday I tried replacing the primary cover gasket hoping that was the culprit even though searches here had me suspecting the shifter shaft seal. No luck, still leaking.

There are several dealers closer including the one that sponsors the HOG chapter I belong to but I called the dealer where I bought this bike yesterday on a whim and after they looked up my VIN to confirm that I had no warranty coverage, they offered to absorb the 3 hours of labor if I would pay the materials bill. Are you kidding me? I obviously can't do it any cheaper myself.

My hat's off to Uke's H-D in Kenosha for helping me out like this. Maybe they can backdate this and turn it in to H-D as warranty work but so what, they are even getting me in tomorrow and I'm picking it up the day after. My kind of service.

 

Great to hear about the dealer I am closest to. I so far have had good experience there myself but bought my bike private.
